Highlights of the Basin:
-Forest and wetlands cover almost half of the basin
-Hosts the largest population of carnivorous plants of any national forest
-Consists of rare and unusual insect-eating plants
-Offers plenty of hiking and biking
-Offers plenty of spots for canoeing, kayaking as well
Human Impacts:
-In Jacksonville citizens have a project to clean up the New River after the
discharged waste treatment plant contaminated the water and depleted its oxygen.
The community has worked to consistently clean up and maintain the river as it is
now thriving.
