also follow each other looking for a role model. The youth will stay with it and maybe grow the
program and get to know the others really well.
If the kid is in a sports program then he or she might look up to the instructor/coach as a
role model. They might not have that role model at home so they look towards the
coach/instructor. According to Lawrence, the sports programs can reflect on the kid physically
and emotionally. Being a part of a team is like having another family. By putting the child in
sports they might find something that they like and would like to make a career out of (Lawrence
70). The youth can grow with each other and learn more things about sports. Young people are
like sponges so if you put them in a good environment they will be great. They can become more
social, friendly and outgoing (Lawrence 72).
The youths parents that encourage the youth to play sports maybe played sports in their
life. But by putting the young kids in a safe and fun environment the parents can get closer with
their children. The youth will gain a lot of independence from playing the sports. According to
Sandford, the youth are very unique and the will pick up quick on things you say or do. So if
the youth get involved in the sports programs they will learn responsibility. The sport will
influence the youth by keeping them away from drugs and alcohol (Sandford 422). Sports can be
used as a stress reliever and help some kids function the right way. You have a good chance in
life if you are in sports and help influence other kids (Sandford 423).
Sports can make a huge impact on the young peoples lives. The young people have been
around a lot of things in their life. But with them being in sports they are more likely to be
successful and go far in life. Not saying that if you are not in sports that you want. But that the

youth are being revealed to the fun and safe environment. So the youths that are involved in
sports lives are influenced by them gaining more confidence in themselves and maintain a
healthy life.
