Formative Assessment
The purpose of formative assessment is to provide ongoing evaluation on students progress. The
overall objective of this assessment is to help adult learners improve their performance, and
ensure their next assignment is better. When students receive appropriate feedback from this
assessment it helps them identify their weakness, and build on their individuals strengths to
improve the quality of each assignment.
Summative Assessment
Summative is another key assessment in the evaluation process. This evaluation gathers evidence
to make appropriate decisions concerning students overall performance. Learners are generally
assessed at the end of the learning process. Adult learners can evaluate if their ready for the next
phase of learning. Educators can also help students prepare for the next learning stage.
Welcome Feedback
It is essential to welcome feedback in the assessment process. Looking at results from different
assessments can create instructional dialogue. Assessment feedback can be beneficial to adult
learners and instructors. Assessment results may require educators to alter instruction to help
learners fulfil their academic goals.
