IDAHO STANDARDS

AND DANIELSON
FRAMEWORK FOR
TEACHING
EVALUATION
EDUCATION 290:MISS HOLLY GIBSON

OBJECTIVES

Readers and audience will have an understanding of the Idaho Core Standards as well as Danielson
Framework for Teaching, and how they help teachers be as most effective as they can.

WHAT ARE THE IDAHO STANDARDS?

There are currently 10 Standards; Knowledge of Subject Matter, Knowledge of Human Development and
Learning, Adapting Instruction for Individual Needs, Multiple Instructional Strategies, Classroom
Motivation and Management Skills, Communication Skills, Instructional Planning Skills, Assessment of
Student Learning, Professional Commitment and Responsibility and lastly Partnerships.

STANDARD 1: KNOWLEDGE OF SUBJECT

MATTER
The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structure of the discipline taught,
and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.
How can teachers teach if they do not know what or how to teach? This is the first standard and the
foundation of the standards. Knowledge is first and foremost the single most important aspect in
teaching. Teaching is all about knowing and having knowledge, about the subject as well as being
immersed in the community and knowing what is happening in the students everyday lives.

STANDARD 2: KNOWLEDGE OF HUMAN

DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING
The teacher understands how students learn and develop, and provides opportunities that support
their intellectual, social and personal development.
Understanding how students learn and their learning style is the next big step in teaching. To be
effective in delivering the information through a lesson a teacher needs to have an understanding of the
learning types of the students so that each and everyone of the students will understand the
information delivered.

STANDARD 3: ADAPTING INSTRUCTION FOR

INDIVIDUAL NEEDS

The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional
opportunities that are adapted to students with diverse needs.

Once the differences of learning are known the teacher needs to apply the learning types into lesson
plans and how the teacher can approach each learning instruction. This can also apply to students with
disabilities that need different instruction than what the class was given.

STANDARD 4: MULTIPLE INSTRUCTIONAL

STRATEGIES
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students'
development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
A student is not going to grow and learn if they are given the same type of problems everyday with no
variation. Critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills make education rounded and
students minds more in depth when solving problems or answering questions.

STANDARD 5: CLASSROOM MOTIVATION

AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS
The teacher understands individual and group motivation and behavior and creates a learning
environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and selfmotivation.
Teachers who are able to keep order in their classroom are going to have much better time at teaching
and having the students interact and respect the teacher, other adults, classmates, as well as material
things in and around the school and classroom. With motivation and management being able to have
both in the classroom is huge. Allowing students to interact and learn together is going to give the
classroom much more unity.

STANDARD 6: COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to
foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
Teachers need to have a wide range of vocabulary. A teacher who uses vocabulary for fifth graders while
they are teaching first grade is not going to help the first graders learn at all. Teachers need to know
how to speak clearly and how to get the information to the student in a way that is effective and the
students will be able to understand the information given.

STANDARD 7: INSTRUCTIONAL PLANNING

SKILLS
The teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and
curriculum goals.
This is a important step in education as well. Having the information related to the students, whether it
be through what is going on in the community or the lives or students, students will react so much
better than if it is something that is not related to them at all.

STANDARD 8: ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT

LEARNING
The teacher understands, uses and interprets formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate
and advance student performance and to determine program effectiveness.
All the standards are important but this is an assessment of the student but also the teacher. The scores
from the students can give the teacher an idea of if they are getting the information across where
students understand it. If the scores are good they know they are doing an alright job if the scores are
low the teacher can examine themselves to see what happened and how they can do better.

STANDARD 9: PROFESSIONAL COMMITMENT

AND RESPONSIBILITY
The teacher is a reflective practitioner who demonstrates a commitment to professional standards and
is continuously engaged in purposeful mentoring of the art and science of teaching.
Being a teacher is a lot of work and is continuous. As mentioned previously a teacher needs to also take
self-assessments of their progress as a teacher. They have the responsibility to teach children and give
children knowledge which is why it is important to follow the standards and stay committed to the job.

STANDARD 10: PARTNERSHIPS

The teacher interacts in a professional, effective manner with colleagues, parents, and other members
of the community to support students' learning and well being.
The more effective teachers are ones who have the ability to communicate on a wide variety of levels. I
feel they are straight to the point and do not skirt around the problem or issue at hand especially when
it comes to students learning.

DANIELSON FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING

Danielson Framework and the Idaho Core Standards go hand in hand. Danielson Framework is another
form of evaluation to use in the classroom as well as Idaho Core Standards.
There are four main domains in the Danielson Framework; Planning and Preparation, Classroom
Environment, Instruction and Professional Responsibility.

IDAHO CORE STANDARDS AND DANIELSON

FRAMEWORK FOR TEACHING IN WORK

Domain 1- Standards 1,2 and 7

Domain 2- Standard 5
Domain 3- Standards 3,4,6 and 8
Domain 4- Standards 9 and 10

CONCLUSION

Education is very important that assessment methods are needed to keep education in line. Danielson
Framework for Teaching and the Idaho Core Standards are two main assessment methods that allow us
to keep track of the progress in education as well as make sure that we are staying aligned with what is
being taught.
