Improvement Plan goes on to say that they have had no teacher turn over in
the last four year. To which they attribute to professional relationships
between teachers and administration, teacher development, and providing
teacher mentors when needed. However, class sizes have increased since
2011 currently they are between 22-24 students per class.
NMEs Media Center houses over 12,000 items including fiction and nonfiction books, reference materials, videos, and audiovisual equipment. The
Media Center also has several programs for the students to benefit from. They
offer S.O.A.R. Program, Reading Bowl, Six Hours of Reading, Book Fairs,
Writers Caf, Accelerated Reading, and the 25 Book Campaign. In addition,
NME Media Center uses Reading Incentive Programs to encourage children
to participate in the Accelerated Reading and the 25 Book Campaign.
NMES has two full time counselors. Students are able to request a meeting
with the counselor by filling out a form and placing it in a black mailbox. The
counselors teach the students in first thru third a body safety program.
Additionally, the counselors lead small group session for students that have
been referred as well as whole classroom lessons on study and life skills. All
students in Douglas County Board of Education have the opportunity for
counseling services.
NMES issues the students an agenda at no cost for parent communication in
grades 2-5. The students are required to have their agenda signed every day.
Moreover, in the handbook it explicitly states that the use of the agenda is not
optional.
NMES offers a variety of clubs and organizations that they students can take
part in, the following are the ones listed in the 2014-2015 Parent/Student
Handbook followed by a brief description.
AV/MEDIA
This club will instruct students in preparing, set-up, and operation of
equipment and tools used for live and recorded performances. Digital
presentations will also be a part of the activities of this club.
CHAPTER BOOK
The chapter book club focuses on a love for reading.
DRUM
DRUM is offered by audition to fourth and fifth grade students who are
interested in belonging to a percussion group.
DRAMA CLUB
The Drama Club is offered by audition to third, fourth and fifth grade
students.
EAGLE CHORUS
The Eagle Chorus is open for fourth and fifth grade students by audition.

Involvement
NMES offers parents the opportunity to have affordable before and after
school care for their children. The cost is $5/day per child for before care and
8$/day per child for after school care the registration cost is $10 per family.
The before care allows the parents to drop the students off at 6am and the
aftercare allows the parents to pick the students up as late as 6pm. During the
aftercare program, the students are given snacks.
PTA- Assembled four committees dedicated to improving the quality of the
school. The four committees are Dad's Initiative, Environmental Education,
Family Involvement, and Reflections. According to the PTAs website the
mission of the committees are as follows:
The goal of the Dad's Initiative Committee is to encourage,
strengthen and support the efforts of father's involvement in the
education of their children.
As a partner of the NMES Go Green Club, the Environmental
Education Committee seeks to help students and families at New
Manchester learn how they can positively impact the environment.
The Family Involvement Committee addresses the very foundation of
PTA by promoting the education, health and safety for all children.

MNES services their EIP and IEP students with a combination of
pull out remediation, in class remediation and co-taught interrelated
classroom models. The gifted students are pulled out for enrichment
to a resource room per Douglas County School System policy.

At NMES the ESOL students are pulled out daily for enrichment. The goal for
Douglas County is to have the students to succeed in speaking, listening, reading
and writing English.
