Lesson # 1
1ST Grade/Science
Lesson Objective(s):
Accommodations: Students will be paired up in groups where two people will be on the same reading
levels and they will be paired with another group that is higher than them. With these groups, they have
someone on their level and two there people that will push them and be able to help them. The
instructions will be written at each station so that if they do not understand what I say, they will be able
to read it. I will pick the groups so that they are fair and make sense. For my student with ESOL as I am
walking around the classroom I will pay closer attention to him to make sure he understands what is
going on. I will have to tell him the directions as he goes to each station, because he cannot read the
English, but he does understand what I say. I will also demonstrate the stations so they can see what to
do.
Materials/ Resources:
Bubbles
pencils
smart board
spinning tops
Yoyo
Toy cars
Procedures:
Engagement:
1. The teacher will ask students to place their pencil on the top of their desk
2. The teacher will then ask the students to move their pencil
3. The teacher then asks How did you make your pencil move?
4. Student will probably say up down to the side etc.
5. Ask questions:
6. Introduce the stations and the objects the stations. Give students instructions to
explore the stations one at a time and feel out the worksheet
Exploration:
1. Students in groups of 3 or 4 will explore objects at different stations, checking to how
the different objects move.
2. After they do one station they will move to another and continue the process until they
have been to all stations.
3. When their group is not at a station they will be required to complete a maze
worksheet.
Explanation:
1. Review the terms that can be used in motion
2. Allow students to share how they were able to move the different objects
3. Explain that pushing and pulling are motions or types of movement that we are
exploring.
Elaboration:
1. Have students copy the vocabulary in their notebook
2. Have them look around the room to see what can put in to motion and how
3. Have them draw what they see in their notebook
Evaluation:
1. Collect the paper to see if they understood the objective.
2. Have them direct the teacher through a maze blindfolded
3. Give student feedback at a later time.
Activity Analysis:
1. I am going to hula hoops and a yoyo to see how motion works. This activity allows students to
get up and out of their seats and be active working on some motor skills. They get to choose the
items and explore and collect data on the object and the way it moves. They have to use their
brains to think of the answer and they get to test it out and that will make them excited. The
students working together helps with better understanding and the hands on activity will help
as well. There is no technology in this part of the lesson, because the students will be doing
hands on exploration; and it is not needed.
2. The next activity will be the completion of the Maze. Each student will have a maze to complete.
They will have to tell me how they get through the maze using the vocabulary words. This
activity will have minimum technology. As a group we will come together and as they tell me
words to get through the maze I will write them on the smart board.
