Communications and Collaboration
A. Family Communication
1. Introductory Letter
A letter to the students families introducing myself and
giving them some information about me, as well as my
contact information.
2. Daily Behavior Documentation
Students will have a weekly behavior chart in their
folders informing their families of their behavior for
each day of the week.
3. Seasonal Newsletter
Families will receive newsletters at the beginning of the
school year, before Fall break, before Thanksgiving
break, and before Christmas break (and seasonal
newsletters for the second semester as well) informing
them of any events coming up at school, wishing them
happy holidays, and giving them some suggestions of
things students should be practicing over breaks.
B. Communication/Collaboration with Colleagues
1. Plan for English Language Learners
There will hopefully be a certain teacher working oneon-one with my English Language Learners in my
classroom. I will develop a plan with that teacher
outlining things I could do in class to help those
students. Also, if those students are struggling with
some subjects, I will create a weekly list of things they
need to work on one-on-one with the ELL teacher.
2. Field Trip Plan
I will plan at least one field trip for my class and I will
work with my grades designated administrator on the
best option for my class. For example, Kindergarten
classes often go to the Pumpkin Patch or a Farm for field
trips, so I will talk with my administrator on whether or
not we should do two field trips and which one we
should do first. If we only do one field trip we will plan
which one would work out best. I will explain the overall

behavior of my classroom in the letter and I will offer to

meet to talk in person and figure out what would work
best.
3. Weekly Guidance Meetings for Students with Behavior Issues
Sometimes, teachers can have very defiant children in
their classrooms and it is best to deal with it and try to
stop it early on. I will observe my students and their
behavior during the first week or two of school and, the
students with the most behavior issues will be appointed
to have weekly meetings with the Guidance Counselor
concerning their behavior. I will contact the counselor at
the very beginning of the school year (maybe even before
school actually starts) and inform him or her of my plan
and we will work out a time for the Guidance Counselor
to meet with my students every week.

Subject: Weekly Meetings with Students
Guidance Counselor,
As you know, we spoke about you meeting with my students with
constant behavior issues in the classroom. I have three students that have
constant behavior issues in my classroom. The first student has issues with
talking and not staying focused. The second student is very defiant and has
some anger issues. Lastly, the third student I would like you to meet with is
struggling with listening and following directions.
I would like to meet with you this week (either during my planning
period or after school) to determine a time that is good for you and for the
students, so that they do not miss instruction.
I greatly appreciate your participation and cooperation with improving the
behavior of my students.
Thank you
