EDCI 270: Individualized Instruction PowerPoint Reflection

This individualized instruction project required that a interactive PowerPoint

lesson/presentation be created. The presentation needed to be interactive as well as contain videos and
sound. My presentations number of slides ended up being in the high fifties.
What I think worked best about this project was the freedom we were given in how we wanted
to make the lesson interactive. There really is not wrong way to make it. I think the way I have my lesson
laid out has some great potential.
Given the time, energy and money, to make this project better, there are several things I would
improve about my presentation. I would have more than likely, provided I had the money to do so,
purchased more efficient software for the PowerPoint interactive capabilities. With more time I would
have added a few more sections to the menu such as oils and sugars, fluids, and exercise and elaborated
on each section more as well as put more time into creating interactive slides. Given the energy to
better this project I would have done more things similar to if I had the time to dedicate to the
presentation.
We were required to create at least 20 planning cards before starting our PowerPoints. I found
that doing so was actually quite helpful and I really enjoyed having the note cards to use as references
when going to start my actually PowerPoint. They were also helpful in how the note cards allowed for
feedback on the lesson before it was actually made and put together. This was nice because that meant
one would not need to go back through their work to fix everything. The peer evaluations were nice
because it allowed for another students input but I think the peer evaluations would have been more
helpful later in the project development so that there was more to look and critique. Most students still
had a lot of things to add to their work so critiquing it was not a full and actual critique.
What I have learned about the instructional planning process is that instruction takes a long
time to carefully plan out and create for your specific audience. There are a lot of things to consider
when you create an instructional lesson. You have to keep in mind what age group you are presenting
to, what they are capable of, and how appealing and interactive they instruction needs to be.
The ISTE standards that I have addressed throughout the development of this project are:

4. Critical thinking, problem solving,

and decision making
Students use critical thinking skills to
plan and conduct research, manage
projects, solve problems, and make
informed decisions using appropriate
digital tools and resources.
a. Identify and define authentic problems
and significant questions for
investigation.

b. Plan and manage activities to develop a

solution or complete a project.
c. Collect and analyze data to identify
solutions and/or make informed
decisions.
d. Use multiple processes and diverse
perspectives to explore alternative
solutions.

6. Technology operations and concepts

Students demonstrate a sound
understanding of technology concepts,
systems, and operations.
a. Understand and use technology
systems

b. Select and use applications effectively

and productively
c. Troubleshoot systems and applications
d. Transfer current knowledge to learning
of new technologies.

These standards were addressed in how students had to make informed decisions with the
questions on the presentation as well as analyze the information presented to them.
Another way the standards were addressed was how students were required to use
technology and operate the presentation.
