Music Video TimelineNarrative

By James Powell

0.00- Narrative begins with a cross cut from the performance with a pan up to a mid
shot in order to introduce the character of Brian, then to match the lyrics we see him
assembling his costume with a series of both mid and close up shots that transition
using a zoom. The combination of the camera techniques and matching costume
should help to communicate the character of Brian clearly to the audience

0.35- In time with the music we see Brian leave the house and begin to walk down
the road again using a zoom to transition from a mid shot to a long shot. Again
these sharp and quick edits and transitions match both the pace of the actual song
and the character of Brain as the song describes him as Calculated and
Commanding

1.00- We see Brian arrive at the performance area of the band as he walks into the frame
of the mid shot. The narrative goes on to show that Brian has arrived to see the band
perform as they enter with the instruments through a long shot. We then have to long
shots (one at a low angle) showing Brian follow in the band through the stage door.
Finishing with another mid shot of Brian as the door shuts behind him.

1.25- An over the shoulder shot is used as Brian sneaks about backstage and secretly
watched the band performing whilst cross cutting between the performance to
provide a link between the two elements of the video. It also cuts to a mid shot of
Brian showing his reaction of enthusiasm for the band.

1.45- In a mid shot Brian approaches the dressing room door. Then in time with the music
he begins to knock on the door , specifically to the drum beat. At the end of the
instrumental section a low angle shot shows the door swing open with Brian then peering
into the room through cut to a mid shot.

2.30- During this section I will utilise jump cuts to portray Brian searching through his room
mostly long shots but also occasional close ups on particular objects. Finally to contribute to the
overall comedic element of the video and also the song I will finish with a slow pan into Brian
applauding in the audience after the band have finished performing.
