Lesson Plan 2
I.
Benchmark/Standard:
6 G1.3.1 Use the fundamental themes of geography (location, place, human
environment interaction, movement, region) to describe regions or places on
earth.
6 G1.3.2 Explain the locations and distributions of physical and human
characteristics of Earth by using knowledge of spatial patterns.
6 G1.3.3 Explain the different ways in which places are connected and how
those connections demonstrate interdependence and accessibility.
II.

Behavioral Objective:
Students will create a poster and map about how Latinos influenced popular
music in the U.S. They will also relate their map and poster with the fundamental
themes of geography , location, place, human environment interaction,
movement, and region.

Anticipatory Set:
Free Write
Prompt: Based on your own at home investigation what are some of the origins of
your favorite genre/style of music? 2-3 sentences

Objective/Purpose/ Essential Question:
How does the Latino music in the U.S. relate to the five themes of geography?

Input
a. Task Analysis Step by Step
1. Anticipatory set
2. Have students get into their groups
3. Instructions of what needs to be included in their project.
a. Poster:
i.
List the 5 themes and how your city relates
b. Map:
i.
Include the location of city and path Latinos took to get to
their assigned city.
c. Students can use all art supplies in the room
d. Inform students that their project should be done at the end of the
hour.
4. Give students the rest of the hour to create.
5. Inform students that they will present their projects tomorrow.

i. Knowledge: What are the 5 themes of geography.
ii. Application: Identify how the 5 themes relate to their assigned city.
iii. Analysis: Distinguish where their evidence should be placed on their
poster and map.

iv. Synthesis: Create a poster and map based on their city and the 5

i. Ways of presenting: Write instructions for project on board.
ii. Materials needed:Art supplies (big sheets of paper/posters, markers,
colored pencils, etc.) They will also need a reference map to help create
their map, They can use their textbooks for this, or map on the classroom
wall.
