RUSSIAN HUMAN RIGHTS SONG

CASEY MARSHALL & MARIAH ANTONELLI

The human rights in Russia have been known to be a problem

Although the LGBT group is hoping to solve them.

This hasnt been easy and they have been punished

When anti-gay thugs lure them to meetings where they are beaten and demolished.
With abuse put on the internet for all to see, these incidents have caused a lot of controversy.

Take me to church by Hozier is a song based on these acts

To support the right of the people, and get the anti-gay society in Russia back.
Groups have come to protest the violations of their rights
Theyre called the Equality Network, and are willing to do what they have to in order to fight.

Freedom of speech for the people is often never met

Authorities continue arresting those activists, sparking more flames in the rioting, you can bet.
Hundreds of citizens protested for the freedom of those arrested from Bolotnaya Square in 2013
Holding up signs of the people imprisoned, they work together and act as a machine.

They will get what they want and know what they deserve, and for this, I believe the people of Russia have
a lot of nerve.

Nonetheless, Russia has a weak multi-party political system

Dominated by President Vladimir Putin, who holds all others at a far enough distance.
The human rights problems are in many different categories

Another being restrictions on Internet freedoms, where the government is in all its glory.
Putin claims its only to protect children from bad content, but people tend to disagree with this concept.

Also lets not forget about Russia's relationship with the European Union
Which may be strained when they stated violations to the human rights, they didnt just happen to
assume them.
No, it isnt a secret on the eve of Putin's inauguration that people were arrested,
For demonstrating their thoughts and are awaiting trial,
The odds could easily be stacked against them.

The winter olympics also came as a drag

To many residents whose homes were knocked down, their lives began to lag.
They wanted to stand up for their human rights,
Who was the government to take over their land?
It was a heart wrenching sight.

In the small town of Sochi is where the most expensive games in history will take place,
This leaves more than 2,000 families to be resettled,
where will their be enough space?

The people are very worried about this issue of being forced to leave everything theyve ever known
This isnt right, the peoples lives and hardwork are in this soil, everything theyve grown.

Even back in Gorbachev's time Russia had a large multicultural society,

He could not let adjustments occur,
for 120 changes were wanted by ethnic groups in all varieties.
Independance desires affected many aspects of life,

Language, culture, the environment, and economy having the same pattern
Than political autonomy, the goal of sovereignty and actual independence soon then followed.

Russia is a high censored country, but as an outsider looking in,

We can see human rights are violated clearly, and its wearing the people thin.
Ethnic diversity exists largely in the country,
Friction is caused and riots are there,
The people hope to someday have a real democracy,
to get what is meant and get what is fair!
