Dear Rebecca,

I can honestly say my expectations for college writing and the material we have
completed in this course thus far do not match up whatsoever. I am overjoyed because of
this, my expectations for college writing was multiple factual and statistical analysis
essays due per week. I did not expect narratives or creative writing assignments and was
pleased to hear our first paper due was a literacy narrative. This class has taught me that
college writing is more flexible than I expected and gives creativity and true thoughtbased writing room to breathe.
My idea-invention portion of planning a paper has mostly come in a much more
relaxed form of visual representation, per your and my groups request, which has pushed
me outside of my comfort zone in a positive way. I am not very artistic, and usually the
one to write everything out. If there was a step I skip in the writing process, it is the
planning/organizing step. Most of my planning occurs in my head, as I am writing my
rough draft. Drafting usually consists of me sitting down and letting my thoughts freely
flow from my mind to my fingertips, rarely do I ever plan out what I am going to write or
how I am going to write it. Revising has come through my peers, which I enjoy because it
allows me to gauge the level on which I am writing compared to those around me. The
easiest part of writing for me is the actual composing of words into sentences, while
attempting to portray what I see in my mind is often the hardest.
Portraying my literacy during my literacy narrative forced my to look at all
aspects of the topic, the most important being sponsors. During my journey towards
literacy, I can easily say my parents were the largest to my literacy so far and also the
reason I stand in the position that I do today. Without their sponsorship, I would not
know how to properly manage my diabetes, and at such a young age would have
probably not survived. Sponsors are vital at such a young age because of the malleability
of the growing human brain.
My literacy narrative was focused on my in such a young age because I believe
that ones upbringing plays a large role in their future character and personality. I feel as
though my topic of fitness was directly significant because of the role it now plays in my
life and the fact that it shows anyone can hold a literacy if the effort is put forth. I saw
literacy significantly communicated when I wrote about my decision to put my foot down
and not only deal with having Diabetes, but strive to be the best I could be with it.
Sincerely,
Taylor Woodby
