Date: 12/2/14
Level: 8th Grade Math
Standard: Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry
software.
M.8.G.1: verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections and translations:
a) lines are taken to lines, and line segments to line segments of the same length.
b) angles are taken to angles of the same measure.
c) parallel lines are taken to parallel lines.
Objective: Students will review each of the transformations that they have learned through
Transformation Workshop. They will complete each task on the list individually and with their partner to
prove their learning.
Required Materials and Equipment: Web SAFEty Rules Poster, Computer Lab, Students will need a
pencil and work paper, Projector and Computer for Bell Ringer

1.
2.
Direct Instruction:
Students will do a turn and talk discussing each of the transformations as a review.

Students will sit with their predetermined partners (I will watch to make sure there are
no issues with seating placements and possible behaviors)
Each student will log into their computers (as practiced previously in the year) and find
the site on Google by typing in Transformation Workshop-Math Playground
I will check all the students screens to make sure that they are on task and following the
SAFEty Rules.
Transformation List
1. Reflect rectangle over x=2
2. Translate triangle up 2 and right 3
3. Rotate right triangle 90 degrees
4. Reflect trapezoid over the x-axis
5. Translate quadrilateral left 4 and up 1
6. Rotate square 270 degrees
7. Reflect rectangle over y=-4
Partner Work:
http://www.mathplayground.com/TransformationWorkshop/Workshop.html
1. Reflect right triangle over the y-axis and translate up 3 and left 2
2. Rotate square 90 degrees and reflect over the x-axis
3. Translate trapezoid down 3 and left 4 and rotate 270 degrees
Guided Practice: I will scaffold with each student who asks or is showing that they are having difficulty.
Student Collaboration: There are three problems for the students to do as partners.
Closure:
Homework will be the Soups and Such activity to be turned in on the next school day.
