In this unit, the students will learn about the history of Santa Claus and how he originated.
They will also learn how to measure distances and countdown to Christmas. Students will
learn how to work kidpix and recreate a story they read in class.

We will not attend any field trips nor have any guest speakers.

Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction

Resource Student

Language Arts: I would provide a vocaroo of the story so that

the children could listen to it on their own in a special center. I
could also have other activities to help the children to
understand the harder vocabulary words.
History- Student will have a center to go to for special help.
Math-Teacher should use their own discretion on how to best
accommodate for their own personal needs.

Non-Native English
Speaker

Language Arts: I would have an interpreter or someone there

to use google translate to help the student translate the
materials
History- Students will have an interpreter present or will have
access to Google Translate.
Math-These students will show their native countrys distance
to the north pole instead of their current one. Language
settings will be adjusted on their tablet or computer.

Gifted Student

Language ArtsI would provide them with an enrichment

center equipped with harder activities on the same subject. I
might require these students to create a more detailed
PowerPoint rather than just create a Kid Pix on their
interpretation of the book.
History-Students will be instructed to add music and a video of
their choosing that relates to the subject on their Prezi.
Math-Students can take the distance a step further and
calculate on their own tablet or computer how many miles
convert to kilometers, yards, feet, inches, etc. they are from
the North Pole.
