First law: If an object experiences no net

force, then its velocity is constant: the object is
either at rest (if its velocity is zero), or it moves
in a straight line with constant speed (if its
velocity is nonzero).[2][3][4]

Second law: The acceleration a of a body is

parallel and directly proportional to the net
force F acting on the body, is in the direction of
the net force, and is inversely proportional to
the mass m of the body, i.e., F = ma.

Third law: When a first body exerts a force F1

on a second body, the second body
simultaneously exerts a force F2 = F1 on the
first body. This means that F1 and F2 are equal
in magnitude and opposite in direction.

There once was a country boy named Percy. He was a

thin young man, but tall. He desperately wished that
he was as big as his brothers and could help with all
of the work to be done before winter came. If he did
not, they might starve. One night looking up at the
stars he wished that he could be big and strong.

The next morning a wise man came

and told him that if he wanted to
help his brothers, he should push
the boulder up the lane.

He walked up the lane and found the boulder the

wise man had mentioned. It was taller than he
and nearly as big around. It seemed that this
would be an impossible task. How could he move
such a large rock?

The next morning as his brothers went out to work Percy looked
over at the boulder down the lane. He could barely move with his sore muscles
from the day before, but he was determined to keep
trying. He walked up the lane to the boulder and began again to push. The
boulder didnt move. Percy just kept thinking of his
brothers in his mind and kept pushing. He did this every day for a few weeks.
One morning he hung his head as his brothers left, feeling like he would never
be able to move the boulder. The wise man was walking
past the lane and saw Percy. He said, I see you have been pushing the
boulder. He smiled and walked away. Percy was confused.
How could he know that he had been pushing? The boulder hadnt moved at
all. Maybe it had, thought Percy. He decided to go back
to the boulder and keep pushing. Maybe the boulder had moved and he didnt
notice. He kept pushing and pushing. His legs still
ached, but not as much as before. He could go longer without breaks and it
didnt seem as impossible.

Despite his doubts, he started to push. He pushed all morning and into the
afternoon. His legs were tired and his shoulders were sore.
He sat on the ground ready to give up. As he sat, he saw all of his brothers working
in the fields and helping plant seeds and work the
soil. He remembered his wish and decided to keep trying. He kept pushing until his
back ached and he couldnt any more.
He went to bed that night discouraged. The rock hadnt moved at all.

Percy continued for a few more weeks. Still he didnt seem to notice any
change, but the wise man said he could tell. Percys brother
noticed a change too. Finally one day Percy had enough. I dont see any
changes! he said. The rock is in the exact same spot as when I started. I have
been pushing tirelessly for months now and it is in the same place. I wanted to
be strong enough to help my brothers and I havent done the one thing the
wise man asked me to do. I guess I will never be able to help my brothers. The
wise man smiled. The brothers smiled.

They all saw the change. Dont you see, said the wise man I never asked you to
move the rock, I just wanted you to push it. You have pushed hard and your arms
are stronger because of it. Your back can handle more endurance. Your legs are
huge and can carry a big load. You are no longer a small boy, but a strong young
man that can help his brothers in the field. Percy looked down he had changed. His
hands were stronger and better able to work, his feet could handle standing for a
long day and his muscles were capable of a long days work. He smiled at the wise
man and smiled at his brothers. The next day he went out with his brothers and
worked in the fields. With his help they were able to have plenty of food for the
winter.

They weigh the same, both weigh 1 ton.

Some things take more force to pull against
gravity than others.

BILL NYE has a thing or two to say about it.

Because of gravity and force, things can be

hard to do.
