Solid, Liquid, Gas Poster

Standards Assessed
AL.SC.2.1. STANDARD: Identify states of matter as solids, liquids, and gases.
AL.LA.2.4. STANDARD: Demonstrate comprehension of second-grade reading
materials across the curriculum, including drawing simple conclusions,
classifying ideas and things, identifying sequence, and retelling directions
and information from informational and functional reading materials.
Description
The product of the valued performance project is a poster that
classifies objects as solids, liquids, and gases. The students may use
drawings, magazine clippings, or written words to specify three examples for
each phase of matter.
Directions
You will create a chart on a poster. You may write Solids, Liquids, and
Gases at the top, or divide the poster into thirds in a pie-chart style. Each
area must be labeled. There must be lines or borders separating each
category.
You will then add at least three examples for each category to the area
labeled. You may use drawings or magazine clippings as pictures of the
objects. Label each object.

Validity Rationale
This project is a poster classifying different examples of solids, liquids and
gases using pictures. This project is used with third grade after learning
about the different phases of matter. It is relevant to life outside of school
because it will help students identify different phases of matter. It relates to
Standard AL.SC.3.1, which is distinguishing between different phases of
matter. The first three criterions relate to this standard. The second standard
is AL.LA.3.4. which is using functional reading materials and constructing
graphic organizers. The fourth, fifth, and sixth criterions relate to this
standard.
