What They Do

Main Duties
Conduct research into the design, operation and performance of electronic communications
Design electronic circuits, components and equipment
Develop maintenance and operating standards for electronic systems and equipment
Investigate electronic failures

Work Environment
Most electronics engineers spend their time researching, developing and testing
often in a private or government facility. The typical work environment involves the
frequent use of a computer, the testing of electronics, and may also involve field
work depending on the particular job.

Getting There

Employment Requirements
A bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering or in an appropriate related engineering
discipline is required
A master's or doctoral degree in a related engineering discipline may be required
Licensing by a provincial or territorial association of professional engineers is required to approve
engineering drawings and reports and to practise as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
