Why I am ready to become a teacher

I am ready to become a teacher and start teaching to young children. My

experiences stems from my field hours working with children and from all the child
development classes I have taken so far. I am ready to positively impact the life of
young children by sharing my knowledge to help them develop their education
skills. I am almost at the end for finishing my associate in early childhood
development and I can affirm that I chose the correct career that fits with me and
makes me happy. Since the very first child development class, I have felt extremely
comfortable with the class and have truly enjoyed this interesting experience. I
know that this is the career that I want to study.
The first class I took was Human Growth and Development 101, from which I
learned about the physical growth and development of an individual from
conception through adolescent. I studied the different stages that a child goes
through life, and what a child is expected to be doing for his age. By learning this, I
know how to help a child within his development and education. In this course I was
introduced to the theories and philosophies of human development in early
education. We also studied two famous psychologists, Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky.
Their developmental theories addressed the cognitive development and learning
among children and adolescents. We discussed their similarities and differences
within their theories.
The second class, Health, Safety and Nutrition 107 course taught me how to
promote good nutrition, physical and mental health for children in a child care

2
center. We discussed the importance of a safety environment for infants and
toddlers. I attained knowledge and acquired the essential skills to ensure good
health nutrition. For example, I had the opportunity to prepare my own recipe for
children. We also discussed the different community resources and emergencies
responses procedures. In addition we learned about the importance to stay alert as
a teacher and recognize the signs of abuse and neglect in young children and most
importantly, the responsibility for mandatory reporting of abuse.
The third class, Language and Literacy Development 109, I learned methods
of encouraging the development of language and emerging literacy skills in young
children. I learned different ways to read to children, tips and techniques to make
literacy more interesting for children. I did my own research in good quality
educational books for children that are age appropriate. I also experienced several
time presenting literacy activities and creating my own activities to promote
language and literacy. I created a workshop for parents to promote the love for
literacy and the importance to read to young children. I explained how childrens
vocabulary expands and the different benefits that literacy brings to a childs
education.
In my fourth class, Introduction Early Childhood education 120, I learned the
different types of curriculum and programs of an early childhood education centers
along with their differences and similarities. We discussed and analyzed the Code of
Ethical Conduct. I also did some investigation of some childcare centers, their
missions, philosophies, and accreditations. We examined the roles of a teacher in the

3
classroom and what are some skills that a good teacher should have in addition to
the expectations of the field.
In my fifth class, Science and Math for the Young Child 143, I learned about the
importance of teaching math and science to young children. I learned how to create
different hands-on activities that were age appropriate for young children, making them
interesting and fun. As future teacher, I have to make sure the activity addresses
childrens needs in learning through appropriate lesson planning: a good goal, objective,
procedure, material needed, developmental benefits, etc. I learned the relationship of play
to the content areas of math and science. I completed many activities where children
engaged in science and math and expanded their knowledge.
In my sixth class, Creative Activities for Young Children 149, I learned the
importance of creative activities in the early childhood classroom curriculum. I also
became familiar with the relationship of creativity to physical, cognitive, language, social
and emotional development. I created different activities for the children and I had the
opportunity to teach them to the children. I had the experience to share creativity with the
children through play, art, music and movement, literature and drama acting. I learned
that every child has their own unique way of expressing their creativity and that in an
early childhood classroom creativity should be reflected in every area.
In my seventh class, Observation, Documentation, and Assessment 201, I learned
the importance of observing young children and how I as a teacher can gather
information to help the child if he or she is having problems in his development. I
encountered different assessment tools that a teacher can use in observation; which serves
as a guide to understand where the child at is in his cognitive, social, emotional, physical,

4
and language development domains. These tools are essential to monitor childrens
progress and arrange the environment to childrens needs as well. I had the opportunity to
complete thirty hours of observing a specific child. I learned how to record anecdotal
notes, completed a checklist and a learned prescription about the childs development. I
also created an IEP and a week lesson plan to help the child in his learning needs. I
understood the importance of confidentiality in every observation that I gathered from the
child. I understood that I cannot share it with anyone except for the parents or school
officials. I am also well-aware that I have to act with professionalism at all times.
In my eight class, Principle and Practices of Preschool Education 258, I
reinforced some of the knowledge that I had attained from previous classes and
learned new skills. I had the opportunity to experience being a teacher in a childcare
center as a volunteer for forty-five hours. I interacted with children and taught
meaningful learning activities to children. In this classroom, I put in practice the
knowledge I have acquired in teaching children. I was able to interact with children
in every stage of their development. I had the opportunity to read to them, teach
some activities, sing and take care of them if the teacher need to step out of the
classroom. I gained the hands-on experience in a typical day in an early childhood
classroom schedule. I also learned how to create one-week thematic lesson plans,
preparing myself to succeed as a future teacher. I had the experience to attend three
workshops were I had the opportunity to work with other teachers in the field as a
team by discussing and engaging in activities in different topics.
As for ninth class, Child, Family and Community Relations 262 I learned the
importance on building positive relationships with children, parents and community

5
in the early childhood setting. I gained the importance of how to respect the
different family cultures, language and diversity that are in a childcare center. We
also investigated different agencies that help children, families and community for
future use. For example, if a parent has any issue going; as a teacher I can refer them
to an agency that can help them and provide information to them. In this course we
also discussed the different issues that affect our community and how as a member
we can help contribute to such community.
With all the hands-on experience, in- depth investigation, and teaching that I
have done in the early childhood courses, I am fully prepared to start working as a
teacher in an early childhood education program. I am ready to apply all the
acquired skills with my undergrad studies and start teaching. I have been preparing
myself with through reading books, studying the NAEYC standards, field experience
volunteering, and being responsible in every each child development class I have
taken. Now, I am ready to become an early childhood teacher. I possess the essential
qualities of a teacher and I truly love to be around children. I enjoy seeing children
happy and I am prepared to offer young children a good, safe learning environment
where they can feel comfortable and ready to learn on a daily basis.
