The Preambles Lasting Effects

On September 11, 2001, many turned on the TV to see

two buildings, the Twin Towers, destroyed in a
terrorist attack. Since then, the U.S. government has
increased the security and done their best to prevent a
disaster like this to ever happen again. This is in the
Preamble, the introduction to the United States Constitution. It explains how the government
would strive to insure domestic tranquility, promote Americas general welfare, and provide
common defense among many other rights. Because of the Preamble, we can enjoy peaceful and
tranquil lives, knowing that we are protected by Americas military from any other tragedies.

The Meaning of the Preamble

Ratified in 1788, the Preamble served as an introduction to the Constitution, describing
its purposes. In the Preamble, it states, We the people of the United States, in Order to form a
more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common
defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our
Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America. This quote
explains how the citizens of the United States would be protected and given a safe live from the
government. According to kids.laws.com, the Preamble served to basically specify the rest of the
Constitution and can be broken down into different,
but equally important phrases.

Understanding the Preamble

Each phrase of the Preamble has its own individual meaning. For instance, We the
people of the United States, is addressing the rights to every citizen of the United States. The
next phrase, in order to form a more perfect union, shows that the goal of the Constitution was
to create a new government that would be able to govern the United States better than the
previous government did. Establish justice, was written to bring fairness to everyone and to
make trials fair for all. The Preamble included a phrase to promise peaceful lives to Americans,
which was the phrase, insure domestic tranquility. Provide for the common defense, explains
how the government would do any means necessary to protect the Americans. In promote the
general welfare, the government tells how the well being of the American citizens will be cared
for as well as possible. And secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity,
promises that we and our descendants will always be free. And finally there is the phrase, do
ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. This powerful, final
phrase explains how the Constitution was made by the people of the United States for the people
of the United States.

The Preambles Enduring Impact

Because of tragedies such as 9/11,the government is taking extra precautions to provide
common defense and insure domestic tranquility. The Department of Homeland Security was
created by the government for this very reason, according to dhs.gov. They even established
justice when they stopped the terrorist group in charge of 9/11 from harming others. The
Preamble still affects us long after its ratification in 1788. To this day, the government does
whatever it can to protect the citizens of the United States, just like how the Preamble insured

that it would. Many complain about the fact that the United States citizens have to pay taxes, but
the money earned from taxing is actually used to improve the welfare for the citizens. The
money also goes to build a proper army in order to protect the United States and all of its
inhabitants. Thanks to the Preamble and the Constitution of the United States, everyone has their
own individual rights and are protected and taken cared for by the government.

Today Because of The Preamble

As citizens of the United States of America, we have rights that are protected by the
Constitution. We affect the government, and the government protects us and allows us to have
calm, tranquil lives. The government has built an army to defend us, to keep us safe. It insures
justice and treats everyone equally. The government does all of this because of the Preamble to
the Constitution. The Preamble gives us rights that cannot be taken away from us. Because of
this powerful introduction to the Constitution of the United States, we have the government we
have today. A government that establishes justice and strifes to improve the lives of the governed
while keeping them safe.The Preamble was a fundamental part of the creation of the United
States of America that we live in today.
