Overview (a short summary of the lesson or unit including assignment or expected or possible products)

While studying the unit on Property Law in the Legal Environment of Business course, students will
research topics specific to renting an apartment. For this project, students will:
Day 1
Choose a topic from a teacher created list
Research the topic on a teacher given website source
Day 2 -3
Create a Google Presentation, Prezi, or PowerPoint Presentation about what they learn from the
research
Create a blog post embedding the presentation into their Weebly blog OR create a blog post
about what they have learned from the research and turn in the presentation separately.
Log in to our class Edmodo site. Locate and open the Google Spreadsheet with group
members posted and links to all class members blog site. Read group members blog posts and
comment/reflect on each group members presentations/post.

Essential Questions (What essential question or learning are you addressing? What would students care or
want to know about the topic? What are some questions to get students thinking about the topic or generate
interest about the topic? Additionally, what questions can you ask students to help them focus on important
aspects of the topic? (Guiding questions) What background or prior knowledge will you expect students to bring
to this topic and build on?) Remember, essential questions are meant to guide the lesson by provoking inquiry.
They should not be answered with a simple yes or no and should have many acceptable answers.

1. Why should renters research apartment living prior to signing a lease contract?
2. What is an example of property law?

Assessment (What will students do or produce to illustrate their learning? What can students do to generate new
knowledge? How will you assess how students are progressing (formative assessment)? How will you assess
what they produce or do? How will you differentiate products?) You must attach copies of your assessment and/or
rubrics. Include these in your presentation as well.

Students will follow guidelines set forth on grading rubric to create a Google presentation, Prezi, or PowerPoint
presentation (see attached). Students will also create a blog post about their research topic or embed their
presentation.

Resources (How does technology support student learning? What digital tools, and resourcesonline student
tools, research sites, student handouts, tools, tutorials, templates, assessment rubrics, etchelp elucidate or
explain the content or allow students to interact with the content? What previous technology skills should students
have to complete this project?)

For this project, students will utilize the following technology/Web 2.0 tools: Google Drive, Google Presentation,
Prezi, Weebly blog, Edmodo, research site nolo.com, and MS PowerPoint.

Instructional Plan
Preparation (What student needs, interests, and prior learning provide a foundation for this lesson? How can
you find out if students have this foundation? What difficulties might students have?)

Students will already have their Weebly blog set-up and be assigned to a group as well as being part of the Edmodo
classroom.
Students will need the knowledge of how to create Google Presentation, Prezi, or PowerPoint Presentation and be
able to save to Google Drive.
Students will need the knowledge of how to post a blog and how to embed a presentation within a blog post.
Students will need to have prior knowledge of contract law and what it means to enter into an agreement or contract
such as a rental lease.

Management Describe the classroom management strategies will you use to manage your students and the use
of digital tools and resources. How and where will your students work? (Small groups, whole group, individuals,
classroom, lab, etc.) What strategies will you use to achieve equitable access to the Internet while completing this
lesson? Describe what technical issues might arise during the Internet lesson and explain how you will resolve or
trouble-shoot them? Please note: Trouble-shooting should occur prior to implementing the lesson as well as
throughout the process. Be sure to indicate how you prepared for problems and work through the issues that
occurred as you implemented and even after the lesson was completed.

This project/lesson plan will be conducted within my classroom computer lab. My classroom is equipped with 28
computers. There will be access to the school network for Internet use. This Legal Environment of Business
class consists of 20 (10th 12th grade) students. For this project, students will work individually as well as part of
a group discussion via the blog posts comments. The only trouble-shooting issue that I see as a possibility will be
if the network server is down there will be no Internet access. If this should occur, we will wait until the next day
to complete the assignment/project.

Instructional Strategies and Learning Activities Describe the research-based instructional strategies you will
use with this lesson. How will your learning environment support these activities? What is your role? What are the
students' roles in the lesson? How can you ensure higher order thinking at the analysis, evaluation, or
creativity levels of Blooms Taxonomy? How can the technology support your teaching? What authentic,
relevant, and meaningful learning activities and tasks will your students complete? How will they build knowledge
and skills? How will students use digital tools and resources to communicate and collaborate with each other
and others? How will you facilitate the collaboration?

The instructional strategies I will be using include Google Presentation, Prezi, Google Docs, Weebly blog,
Edmodo, and the Internet for research on a specific website. I will ensure the higher order thinking at the
Blooms Taxonomy levels by requiring students to complete tasks using the instructional strategies set forth on
the rubric. Strategies and higher order thinking will consist of:
Google Presentations or Prezi Create Designing a multimedia presentation
Weebly Blog & Edmodo Evaluate Collaborating with peers, Evaluating each group members blog
post, & Discussing project/research with all classmates
Google Docs Apply editing documents
Internet research Remember/Understand identifying information

Differentiation (How will you differentiate content and process to accommodate various learning styles and
abilities? How will you help students learn independently and with others? How will you provide extensions and
opportunities for enrichment? What assistive technologies will you need to provide?)

Students will have various instructional products to choose from to create the presentation. Google Presentation
or Prezi may be used. Although students will be working independently on the research and presentation piece,
they will be working collaboratively when commenting and discussing group members blog posts.

Reflection (Will there be a closing event? Will students be asked to reflect upon their work? Will students be
asked to provide feedback on the assignment itself? What will be your process for answering the following
questions?
Did students find the lesson meaningful and worth completing?
In what ways was this lesson effective?
What went well and why?
What did not go well and why?
How would you teach this lesson differently?)

The closing activity for this lesson will be the student reflection on each group members blog posts about the renters research
topic. Students will log in to the class Edmodo site to find the instructions for posting comments on group members blogs. I
will have them use the same ABC method that has been utilized in this course for blog commenting. Acknowledge
something the individual said, Build on their commentary by adding personal experience or observation, and Conclude with a
critical thinking comment or question to the class.
After the implementation of this project/lesson, I was able to see a different student engagement. The Legal Environment of
Business class has a great deal of mundane curriculum for students to learn. By implementing Web 2.0 technology into the
project, the students in my class found this lesson much more meaningful and relevant to their learning. By bringing realworld projects/lessons into the curriculum, I find the learning to be much more engaging for the students. They are able to
relate to what they are learning as well as have a better understanding for things in the real-world.
For this lesson, everything went as planned. The main thing that I would change is to give the students a grading rubric for the
reflection/comment portion of the project. I found that students were not commenting or reflecting on each group members
blog posts as I had originally asked them to do. I think that the next time I implement this project, I will give the students a
rubric for the reflection and comment.

Closure: Anything else you would like to reflect upon regarding lessons learned and/or your experience with
implementing this lesson. What advice would you give others if they were to implement the lesson? Please
provide a quality reflection on your experience with this lesson and its implementation.
I have been very impressed with the students in my Legal Environment of Business class this semester and especially with their
work on this project/lesson plan. When I had them to begin blogging at the beginning of this semester, I could see a change in
the overall dynamics of the class. For the majority of the students in the class, blogging has been a way of expressing
themselves in a way that they would never do in a face-to-face class setting. Specifically for this project, the students took
more time to research their topic(s), create the presentation, and post into a blog. The work they produced was of a higher
quality than that of some of the other projects from the course.
My advice to others implementing this lesson would be to make certain the students have already created their blog sites prior
to this project. Also, teach the students how to use Google Docs - showing them how simple and much easier it is to use than
just saving to a jump drive or another device.
