INSTRUCTIONAL DECISION MAKING

MDD Standard
The teacher candidate makes adjustments to the lesson plans based on
assessment data and pupils engagement, communicating the analysis and
conclusions regarding the impact of instruction.

3.1 Student Response to Lesson 1:

In my opinion, students responded in the way that I predicted and even better,
because at the beginning I thought that they will not answer my questions like
what did you learn last class? Or could you give me some examples of likes and
dislikes? But they answered immediately. Also, I was not difficult for them to
understand the instructions.

3.2 Adjustments for Lesson 1:

As I thought that they would not answer my questions at the moment, I give some
minutes in my planning for them to think about their possible answers, but they
did not use that time, so my at the finish of my lesson, there were 10 minutes
left. Fortunately, I had my magic box and I printed some pictures with free
common activities, and I reviewed what they learned the previous class and what
I thought them that class. Consequently, I strongly believe that having a magic
box works and it is a very helpful tool.

3.3 Analysis of Learning Results

3.3.1 Whole Class: Unfortunately, there are not any samples of the tasks that the
students made. But, I believe that the goals of my lessons were attained,
because students could develop their skills better with dynamic activities.
3.3.2 Individuals:
3.3.2.1 Student 1
He is extremely shy and has a lower level of English. I have seen that he has changed
a lot during these four weeks. At the beginning he never talked, the T had to ask him
directly some questions, but now, after the last lesson, I could realized that it was not
necessary to ask him directly, because now he has the initiative to answer without the
need of asking him.

3.3.2.2 Student 2

Another student is Carlos, he started with a higher level of English than the rest of the
class and he is very talkative. In my opinion, he has improved his level of English, and
more than that, he has improved the oral skill, because most of the activities were
speaking activities.
3.4 Impact of your instruction on Student Learning
3.4.1 In my opinion the activity that contributed most to the student learning was to
show my own pictures doing some activities, because they realized that I am a
person like them, and not a superior person.

3.4.2 I think that my teaching behavior affected student learning a lot. I am a very
energetic person and I could transmit that energy to the students. That helped
them to do the tasks in a positive state and they were totally open to learn more
and more.

Repeat same sequence of prompts for Lesson 2

3.1 Student Response to Lesson 2:
This time it was more difficult for them to understand my instructions, because it was a
more difficult topic than the previous one, so I did not think on making simpler my
instructions. In general terms, the response of the students to the lesson was
good, the learning goal was achieved by them, so that is a good aspect.

3.2 Adjustments for Lesson 2:

I would adapt my level of English according to their level of English. That made difficult
to understand my instructions and questions.

3.3 Analysis of Learning Results

3.4 Impact of your instruction on Student Learning
3.4.1 In my opinion the activity that contributed most to the student learning was to
make a game at the end of the class. They had to guess something asking to
another student. So, they had to make questions, and that was their great
weaknesses, because they really needed some practice relating to making
questions, so the activity could help them to get familiar to the structure.

3.4.2 I think that my teaching behavior affected student learning a lot. I am a very
energetic person and I could transmit that energy to the students. That helped
them to do the tasks in a positive state and they were totally open to learn more
and more.

4.1 I will improve my language. I did not think on adapting my level of English
according to the students level. Consequently, to understand my instructions were
difficult for the students. So, the next time that I have to plan a lesson, I will think
about it.
Another aspect is to use CCQs, most of the time I forgot using CCQs to check
understanding, because I thought that it would be confuse for students, but I have
to understand that CCQs are not only questions, so there are other ways to check
understanding.
II.

REFLECTION AND SELF EVALUATION

MDD Standard

The teacher candidate identifies the main things learned in this practicum and ways
in which this learning has informed their professional development needs, reflecting on
the meaning, values, and purposes that will orient his or her professional life.
4.1 I have learned that I really have to focus on who are my students; I need to know
them, what are their general strengths and weaknesses related to the lg.
Because I have to do my planning lesson according to what I know about them, I
need to catch their attention in order to achieve the main learning goal.

4.2 I have improved my content knowledge a lot. Now I really think that to apply what
I know in the practice is the key. Because, I do not need to know all the
theoretical part of the content, I need to apply it in order to make a meaningful
learning.
