SAC: The Story of Tom Brennan J. C. Burke


Write a text response using the TEEL structure on ONE of the following topics:
1. Daniel Brennan was an accident waiting to happen.
In The Story of Tom Brennan, Daniel is the only one to blame for this tragedy.
Do you agree?
2. That was the morning Tom Brennan came back, forever.
What struggles does Tom face in The Story of Tom Brennan as he tries to
rediscover his sense of self?
3. J.C. Burke explores the character of Daniel from a distance as he becomes
more powerful that way. Discuss.

o 100 minutes (25 mins first lesson, 75 minutes second lesson)

o No notes to be taken into the SAC
o Word limit: 800 words minimum
Remember:
o Essay must use the TEEL structure
o Essay must include an introduction, four paragraphs , and a conclusion
o You need to meet the required word limit (800 words) and marks will be
deducted if you have not met the word limit
o You need to include METALANGUAGE throughout remember the
metalanguage sheet you have gone over in class, and think back to your
themes essay and how you included metalanguage
o Do not write I or me or my within the essay it is not a personal essay, this
is an analytical text response
o EMBED QUOTATIONS within your writing in each paragraph you should
aim to have 3-4 quotations embedded. Your quotations should not be more
than six words in length and need to fit seamlessly into your sentences.
o Work carefully with the assessment criteria to ensure you are meeting the
AUSVELS standard.
