Grade and Topic: 2nd grade Science Length of Lesson: 50 Minutes for 1 day
Mentor Teacher: Mrs. Puckett

School: Campus School

UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

The student will learn and comprehend facts on how mountains change climate that they read off
of the website, and video given.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:

Given the website, and video the student will comprehend what they read, see, and hear and score at least 8/11 on
the worksheet.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
GLE0507.8.1-Analyze and predict how major landforms and bodies of water affect atmospheric
conditions.
SPI0508.2- Explain how mountains affect weather and climate.
TN ISTE standard 3B- Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information
from a variety of sources and media.
MATERIALS:
Computer with availability to get to the sources given, and with sound availability.
Need a pencil, and headphones to complete the assignment given.
Students will use www.weatherwizkids.com/weather.climate.htm and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuvy4nLtWk4 as their sources to complete the worksheet given.

Technology will be integrated by use of website, and by use of a video found on YouTube, then student
will complete worksheet based on these sources.
BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of what climate is, and how major landforms affect the
climate.

Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.

I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the
objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in
this course and are not part of this particular lesson.

This lesson builds on the SPI0507.8.1, which is describing the effects of the oceans on weather and
climate.
This lesson will carry over into the next lesson, which according to the state standard understands how
the physical characteristics and the chemical makeup of the atmosphere influence surface processes and
life on Earth.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

Introduction: Introduce the students to the lesson, and what it all encompasses. For example, tell them
what all parts go into this lesson, and what we will do that day for this lesson. Then jump right into the
lesson itself.
Then I will show them the sources of which they will use to complete the worksheet.
Then I will follow that by handing out students a worksheet, and let them begin.
Procedures:
Prior to computer (5 minutes)
Teacher Procedures: The teacher will let the students know that there will be a lesson from a
different instructor, and will tell them to act as if it was her teaching them still.
Student Procedures: Will walk with their regular teacher up to the MacLab.
At the computer (50 minutes)
Teacher procedures: Introduce student to the lesson, and explain what all they will do that day.
Then pass out the worksheets to each of the students, and finally tell them to open up the computer to
the appropriate websites they will use. Then after the worksheet is complete we will go over it with the
students
Student procedures: Students will receive the worksheet, proceed to open the sources they have
been given, and complete the worksheet. After the worksheet is complete the students will go over it,
and explain each answer.
After computer (5 Minutes)
Teacher procedures: Teacher will open a smart board exercise, explain to the students how to do
it, and call up students to participate.
Student Procedures: Students will participate in a smart board activity that will encompass what
went on in the lesson.
Closure: Teacher will overview main points from lesson, and will ask if any of the students have any
questions.
