In 1972 Congress changed a portion of the United States Education Amendments.

Title IX was included as part of the Civil Rights Reform as a measure of gender equity
and equal opportunities. In general Title IX claims, No person in the United States shall,
on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be
subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal
financial assistance. By this they mean that regardless your race or gender everyone
should receive the same type of treatment and equal opportunity in education programs
funded by the federal government. In order to get my point across we will be looking at
an article Title IX- Tipping the Scales of Equality which is a scholarly journal written
by Alison Williams and an image from the womenssportsfoundation.org.
The article Title IX Tipping the Scales of Equality was written by Alison
Williams who is a law student at the University Of Denver Sturm College Of Law.
Williams also includes footnotes in her paper which is another way to help provide the
credibility she needs other than her reference or bibliography page. This article shows
logos due to the fact that the paper is kept in an orderly fashion. It has sub headers and
has credible sources towards the end of the paper to show the reader exactly where she
had gotten her information from. Although, this article shows no pathos because as a
scholarly journal it only gives out and states facts in which no sympathy is shown
towards the genre. Scholarly journals are specifically known to show more ethos and
logos than it is to show pathos. Although a photo can contain all three topics of having
ethos, pathos and logos.
There was a image from the womenssportsfoundation.org that I chose that would
go perfectly with this scholarly journal. The image has ethos but shows very little of it

because there was a slight grammatical error when she had put WOMAN ATHLETES
PLAY WITH BALLS, TOO instead of women athletes play with balls, too. It may
seem that shes making a joke, but it goes with logos and how she still catches everyones
attention that women athletes do play sports and that they should receive the same
amount of treatment and funding as men. Pathos also comes along with the photo because
shes putting herself out there to let everyone know whats going on and stating exactly
whats on her mind by making what seems to be a joke an actual true statement.
Of the two different genres that I had chosen from, in my opinion, I believe that
the picture of the woman holding the sign is more effective when it comes to having a
bigger impact to the audience. Lets be honest whos really going to sit down and actually
read a whole article about something when they can just read a sign with a couple of
words on it and still get the same message. A lot of you may not agree with me, but this is
what I think and what I believe in.
