Diverse Cultures Multicultural Education When the class consists of students from many different cultures and backgrounds, it is important that teachers do the following: Be aware that what we bring doesn’t build up any barriers and promote accepting attitudes amongst the class. - Be sensitive to the culture of both the student and parent. - Be informed about a variety of cultures and ethnic groups and do not make assumptions about the student. - Integrate aspects of different cultures into the curriculum. - Empower students from the own individual's success. - Support students to improve the general community. 0 Astrategy that teachers could use in multicultural classrooms is the os 3 “jigsaw classroom” method, developed by Aronson (1986). ~2% YX This method is ideal for class projects. The class is sorted into several groups and each group is made up of students from different backgrounds. Every student in the group does individual research and formulates their own opinions on the topic and then the group comes back as a whole to teach what they have learned. The goal of this method is to have students share their perspectives and work towards a common goal, therefore encouraging respect and co-operation amongst the students. Supporting FNMI Students
