Teacher-School Staff & Student-Student Involvement Collaboration. Teacher-School Staff Community Just as important as it is for teachers to collaborate with parents and students, it is also crucial that they work with their colleagues: other teachers, support staff, the counsellors and administration. Some examples of these collaborations are listed below. Teacher-Teacher: ‘The teachers are able to encourage each other's strengths and provide support for each other's weaknesses. ‘The teachers may become more adaptable when working with each other and less reliant on external materials/resources from other schools. They can brainstorm ideas for lessons and work to imprave the ones they already have, therefore reducing individual planning time. ‘They can join classes and one teacher can instruct the class using a single lesson. -+ ‘The teachers can create pod placements, where students at a similar learning level join small groups and work in various areas. The teachers can inform future teachers what to expect from their class, both in academics and behaviour. Teacher-Support Staff: They can assist each other in managing the class and student behaviour. They can work together and evaluate which students need some extra support. They can strategize what goals and plans are most suitable for certain students’ individualized program plans. They can help monitor lunch, allowing teachers a small break. ‘They can provide one-on-one or small group support. Student-Student Community Positive student interactions are essential for the class to function successfully. Some examples of these interactions are listed below. ‘* The students are able to ask questions to their peers and help one another with assignments, projects and homework. © They can work collaboratively in groups when approved by the teacher. ‘* The students are able to develop positive relationships with one another, based on honesty and respect. © They can check each other's work. ‘* They can grade one another’s work and may have a choice of who they would like to work with. ‘* The students may come together and discuss their feelings about the class and other subject areas in school, They may share what they are excelling at and what areas they would like to improve upon. ‘Students within the same grade and in some cases higher grades can do partner teaching together. * The students can have buddies for the hallway, bus and homework.
