Gastric Banding Surgery Using LAP-BAND

Introduction:
Sometimes losing weight is a very difficult thing to do. Whether you have heart problems
that inhibit you from exercising, or diets do not seem to work, there is another solution.
Gastric banding surgery using the LAP-BAND Adjustable Gastric Banding System is
easy and can help you get down to a healthier weight and live a better life. In this guide
we will walk you through the process of gastric banding surgery with LAP-BAND and
potentially answer any questions you may have.

What is the LAP-BAND?

During the first step of the operation the patient will undergo general anesthesia with an
IV, and oxygen given through a mask. The surgeon will then make small incisions in
order to insert a small camera and instruments through the patients abdomen and into the
stomach. This process is known as a laparoscopy. The
surgeons will then the LAP-BAND around the upper
part of the stomach, creating a small pouch that has a
small access tube to the lower stomach. The LAPBAND is a small band with adjustable sacs to conform to
your stomach. If adjustments need to be made to the sacs the
LAP-BAND features a discreet port beneath your
skin that can be easily accessed via one small
incision. This procedure will take upwards of
one
hour (How the LAP-BAND System Works,
2014, January 1).

How
Weight is Lost:

When you first eat after the surgery your food will go
into the upper part of the stomach and make you feel
full with just a small amount of food. The food
slowly moves down into the lower stomach. This
procedure will cut down your desire for more calories
and in turn, lose weight (Laparoscopic gastric
banding: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia, 2012,
October 2).

procedure.

Conclusion:

We hope this information gave you the confidence to make an informed decision about
gastric banding surgery using the LAP-BAND system. We are here to help you become
the healthy person you want to be, and when diet and exercise just dont cut it, maybe the
LAP-BAND is a solution.
