My eportfolio contains several items, based on Dixie State University Department

of Education DESERT model standards, which show my growth and experiences during
my education program. These experiences have been documented in my eportfolio by
benchmark assessments and appendix items that demonstrate that I am a competent,
caring, and qualified educator.
I believe that the (DM5) lesson plan I created in SCED 4100 shows that I am a
competent teacher. This lesson shows I am able to make accommodations in my lesson
planning to meet the needs of my students who learn in a variety of ways (DM1). This
lesson plan identifies my classroom contextual factors and incorporates teaching
strategies from my exceptionalities instructional helps document. I made modifications in
my lesson plan in language development, instruction, and assignments to meet the needs
of my students. I included vocabulary in the subject content to enhance students
understanding. The assessments showed that my students met the lesson objectives,
which provided evidence my accommodations were successful.
In addition to my lesson plan providing evidence of making accommodations, it
also demonstrates my ability to use technology to motivate and engage students in
learning (DM2) and shows that I can provide the subject matter (DM3) in an effective
manner that they will have access to outside of the classroom. Through smart notebook I
was able to use the Smart Board with my PowerPoint to show what geometric and
arithmetic sequences are, and how to solve math problems using them. Students were
involved in solving problems on the Smart Board as a class and individually. After class
the notes were saved to the class webpage for students to refer back to (DM6).
I believe that my Classroom Management Plan that I created in my SCED 4600

class shows that I am a caring teacher. It shows I am able to create a safe environment
(DM4) for my students to grow and develop mentally and personally. In my CMP I have
addressed procedures, routines, rules, consequences, rewards etc. that will be used to give
students stability and allow them to know what is expected of them. I expect my students
to respect themselves, respect others, respect their classroom, and respect their school.
My classroom is a safe zone.
I believe that my Video of a lesson from my practicum with a self-evaluation and
reflection shows that I am a qualified educator. This video shows that I use effective
pedagogy skills (DM2), I am competent in teaching the subject matter (DM3), and I am
capable of reflection on a lesson and evaluating myself so that I can teach more
effectively in the future (DM5). In the lesson that is recorded I used the technique, I do,
we do, you do which allows students to gradually understand the content and become
independent in using it. With math it is important to build off of the information they
already have and to make connections with previous knowledge. During this lesson they
learned about discrete sequences and connected the new information with the sequences
function, graph, and domain and range. I love math, it is hard but I love it. I know that
when I teach I will need to make improvements and work on vocabulary and wording,
but my students will always know Im teaching because I love the content and I love
working with them.
Throughout the education program at Dixie State University, I have had many
opportunities to learn and grow as a person and as a teacher. The benchmarks that are in
my eportfolio represent and provide evidence of the experiences I have had that helped
me to become a more competent, caring, and qualified teacher.
