MECHANICS OF MATERIAL LABORATORY.
EXPERIMENT:

To find the modulus of elasticity (E) of the given beam specimen on beam
deflection apparatus.

APPARATUS:

Beam deflection apparatus, Beam specimen, Dial Gauge, load device &
hanger, Weight, Vernier Caliper.

THEORY:
PROCEDURE: Level the apparatus, place beam over the supports. Mount dial gauge at mid
span. Also the load device at mid span above the beam and below the dial pointer. Adjust dial
gauge to zero. Now start placing weight in load device and note corresponding deflection.
When all loads have been placed and deflection noted, start removing loads and note
corresponding deflections. Take average value of v and calculate corresponding E values. Find
average value of E.
