Subject: Research Proposal for Inquiry into the Discipline of Nursing
In what follows, I introduce my research project, provide background information on the project
and a review of literature, and discuss my research procedure and methodology. I submit this
research proposal for your review and approval.
Introduction: I am performing this research in order to inquire, what process I must follow
become an active and successful nurse of the discourse community. The dilemma I am
confronting, is the impotency I have felt previously at times of sorrow; when my relatives and
friends faced dreadful diseases. Therefore, the primary question to debate within this extensive
research is, what are the requisites to become a successful member of the nursing community?
I plan to sub-divide this research into several categories, which are time, practice for
work-field, cost, study, tools, relations, and failure. These certain categories will be separated
into parts that will cover in depth every particular aspect of them. I will also utilize diverse
questions to support my angle in the subject and opinions; this questions will be ramifications of
my primary research question, in the format of secondary research questions.
The following table summarizes the spectrum or expectance on how the information in
the research will be arranged, besides of giving a glance of what will be included.

Literature Review/Background: I have examined several works published from previous years,
which are significantly different form recent publications. I personally believe, that the method
in which nursing has been imparted and taught at the full length of history has improved
exceptionally.
Next, I will provide some sources I have scrutinized about my intended discipline, along with
their distinctive citations:

Kermode, M. (n.d.). Five healthy reasons to study nursing. CareerFAQs. Retrieved September
23,
2014, from http://www.careerfaqs.com.au/news/news-and-views/five-healthy-reasons-tostudy-nursing/
The online article explains the benefits a person can obtain by choosing a nursing career. It
covers the modifications that the nursing career has suffered from the past to a modern
perspective. Also, there is implemented some traits a nurse must possess because not everyone
has the ability to be one.
Plutnicki, J. F. (June 06, 1960). Curriculum Implications of Expressed Views of Selected Staff
Nurses as to What Results in Effective Teaching of Patients. Nursing Research, 9, 2.)
The intended purpose of this article is to provide a basis, in which nurse practitioners and
professionals personal can compare data about the methods of teaching in this distant era. In this
manner, nursing faculty and the programs implemented in the nursing schools curricula could be
modify, into a more appropriated and convenient curriculum.

This source states the implications faced by the nurses, who are at an advanced level of
education. It includes the scenarios and situations a nurse has to confront in their practices in
depth, so it can be comprehensible. Besides, it contains material that can overall be seen as
cognitive for learning and practices that need to be done, how they need to be done, and the
complications that can be presented. The source pretty much covers some of the subjects that
nurses must revise to perform this particular kind of practices.
Young, L. E., & Paterson, B. L. (2007). Teaching nursing: Developing a student-centered
learning environment. Philadelphia: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

This book inquires in the complexity of learning and teaching of nurses. It deals with the
foundations of the learning by identifying methods, which are supposed to be helpful for nursing
students, so they can apply it in real life situations. Furthermore, it describes the problems and
controversies in the implemented pedagogy of nursing. Finally, it addresses the way in which the
learning has been shaped throughout history.
I firmly believe that knowing how to treat the patient correctly and politely is the most
fundamental trait a nurse must have. They have fail to mention what it requires form a person to
become a nurse itself, it just mentions in some parts how to perform and act in front of certain
circumstances as a nurse, but not the whole package. I intend for this project to enlighten people.
I want to ameliorate the lives of folks, who want to seek a nursing degree and facilitate them the
search by narrowing their options and steps. I think it is extremely optimal to create this research,
so I and other will be in a sense, more successful and active nurses of the discourse community.
Procedure/Methodology: I will conduct a series of investigations covering several different areas
from which, I will obtain crucial information for my research.
-Interviews: I plan to interview a variety of people, ranging from nursing students, nursing
faculty to nursing professionals. I will interrogate people in campus and in hospitals about their
experience in the field, apart from how have they managed to fulfill all the requirements
necessary for them, in order to perform their role in their specific area. Besides, I will implore
them to demonstrate the activities they execute at school or at work. In this manner, I will have a
perspective of how the training they have experimented has benefited them.
-Surveys: I will include relevant question for people to respond, thus I will acquire a background
about the topics covered in my research. For example, I will create a survey with specific

questions related to the categories I have assigned, such as, their experience in the field, and the
level of satisfaction the people have towards this particular discipline.
-Document analysis: I will revise and analyze a considerable quantity of hand-written and online
books, articles, interviews, etc. Then, I will collect information for my investigation; including
my cited and quoted sources. I need to perform this research in order to expand my knowledge
about the subject, therefore I will be able to provide a convenient and pertinent research about
my intended discipline. Moreover, I will check the curriculum or degree plan a nurse must
follow, to gain an insight about the expectations and struggles in the process of my intended
career.
-Site observations: In this section, I intend to observe and visit hospitals to analyze them form
the nurse perspective. Of course, with the permit of the intern coordinators, I will try to identify
the work-environment, patients, treatments, and just fully observe the job of a nurse.
Conclusion: I am not completely sure yet of what is the appropriated path or steps to become a
nurse, but the information I have collected up until now has helped me extraordinarily. Now, I do
know partially, what to do as my further steps in my discipline.
