Assessment Focus

Anecdotal Records are an easy way to assess a child and a fast one to.
It gives us a chance to write down a childs behavior at any time.
Focuses on what the child CAN do.
Assess in all development areas: social, physical, emotional, & cognitive

*Be sure to avoid putting in biases (opinions)*

Administration of Assessment

Use it to write down quick and easy notes on the go.


By writing actions down you can see what the child knows how to do.
Can focus on what the child needs improvement on.
Provides a way of documenting changes.

Confidentiality

FERPA is enforced
Any information will be between child, educator, and parent
No outsiders!

Involvement

Firefighters presentation about Stranger Danger


What to do when a stranger talks to you
Write down anecdotal notes on prevention of stranger danger
Write down anecdotal notes on valuable information in case this occurs
Also give example of how they use anecdotal notes such as when they set
up for a fire call

Expectations
We can focus on what the child knows
We can focus on what the child needs to work on
The child will be able to see what they are good on and what they need to
work on
We will be able to get the child to improve and reach full potential

Have community practice writing Anecdotals on the children around them
or on one specific one

Diversity
Anecdotal Records are great for diversity. Since it focuses on what the child can
do rather than what they cant do. It is also good because it can be for any child
and it doesnt narrow it down to culture or the childs limitations. Also, it is
easy to go back and take out a bias if you happen to put it in. It is easy to make
a quick anecdotal at any time throughout the day and save it or add it to others
to see changes in behaviors. Anecdotal Records has no limitations and that is
why it is the best assessment tool to use.
