Nonverbal Influence Assignment

The goal of this assignment is for students to focus on a particular aspect of nonverbal
communication and its influence on society and write an 8-10 page (double-spaced) analysis
paper. Additionally, students must present their papers by providing a summary of the key
points of their paper and the significant features of their research. Referencing any of the covered
topics from class, students are to further research the historical, cultural, scientific, or behavior
influences of nonverbal communication. One potential focus of a paper within the topic of
culture could be how culture plays a role in expression of emotions among different cultures.
Topic Submission (10 points): In approximately 1 to 2 pages, provide an introduction and
abstract of the nonverbal communication societal influence focus of the paper. The introduction
should be no more than one paragraph, outlining the relevance of the papers focus. Following the
introduction is the abstract; provide a summary of the initial key areas on the topic. The
instructor must approve the topic before continuing to the literature review assignment.
Due: February 12
Literature Review (80 points): In approximately 5 to 6 pages, provide a literature review on the
topic of the nonverbal influence assignment. The literature review should synthesize the concepts
on the topic of chosen. This section of the paper should not be a summary of each source, but
rather should organize the key areas on the topic into a structured order. There should be a
minimum of 10 sources with at least 6 of them from peer-reviewed, academic sources.
Due: February 26
Paper (150 points): The final assignment should build on the two previous sections of the
assignment with an analysis of the findings as well as a conclusion. The analysis is not a summary
of the literature review, rather, the analysis should be the writers evaluation of the findings in
the literature review. The final structure of the nonverbal influence paper should be as follows:
1. Introduction (1 to 2 pages)
2. Literature Review (5 to 6 pages)
3. Analysis (1 to 2 pages)
4. Conclusion (1 page)
Due: March 12
Presentation (10 points): For approximately 5 minutes, provide a brief synapsis of the nonverbal
influence focus of the paper. The presentation should consist of 3 to 5 slides summarizing the
topic, findings and analysis of the topic.
