11.3 Critical Thinking
Does allowing bail agents more flexibility in apprehending suspects who jump bail create a risk that law
enforcement will informally use them to engage in tactics that are unlawful for the government?
I dont necessarily believe that bondsmen create more or a risk. In all honesty if a person is going to run,
they will run whether theyre on bail or not. Either way someone would have to apprehend the
defendant if they tried to run. Bondsmen, although some tactics are dangerous, take a certain amount
of risks in order to bring in a criminal if they jump bail. In a sense, theyre helping more than theyre
hindering officers. Instead of worrying about having to apprehend these bail jumpers, law enforcement
can concentrate on catching other criminals.
