Chapter 3 Discussion questions

Abby Telenko
1) I think that with their knowledge the pigs should take charge and help everyone because
all the other animals dont know how to think for themselves and the pigs can lead them
into the right direction. But I do think that the pigs should have worked. Because just
because you have knowledge doesnt mean that they dont need to contribute any work
towards the farm. I think this would be the criteria in the real world only if no one else
was able to think for themselves. It would have to be that no one knew what to do and if
one person did, then they should take charge.
2) People and animals love the feeling they get when they do it by themselves, and they feel
accomplished. Also when things are made by other people they might not like it because
it was not done their way.
3) Donkeys live a time. None of you has ever seen a dead donkey. Pg. 30. This quote is
weird because it doesnt really make any sense. This quote is important because it shoes
Benjamins personality, and how it interacts with the other animals. It shows how he is
stubborn, hard-headed, and rude.
4) My personal motto is God gives us what we can handle even if we dont know it.
5) When Benjamin says, None of you has ever seen a dead donkey. He means that he is
expecting to stay on the earth for a long time. He is telling the animals that he is not
going anywhere by asking them if they have seen a dead donkey.
6) The element of human society the animals represent is selfishness, and laziness. Because
when the animals were treated with generosity, they took advantage of it and didnt
change from how they acted.
7) I think the antagonism between Snowball and Napoleon will lead into a split in society
for the animals. It will be Snowballs side or Napoleons side.
8) I like Snowballs way better because Snowball wants to help all not just the young.
Snowball has good intention for all the animals not just for one part of the animals.
Napoleon only wants to help the young, and not help the people who have been there
thick and thin. While Snowball does.
9) The ethos in Squealers speech was that he used good vocabulary and when he says it has
be proven by science. The pathos is when Squealers speech is when he says that Jones
will come back if the pigs dont eat the apples and the milk. The logos is when Squealer
says that the pigs have been taking charge of the farm. His claim is that the pigs need all
the apples and milk. The data is, Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our
health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by science) his warrant is, if we pigs
failed our duty? Jones would come back!
10) I dont think that Mollie and the Cat should not have the same rights as the rest of the
animals because if they dont put in the work, then they shouldnt earn the equal amount
as everyone else. If they did put in the work then they would earn the same amount as
everyone else.
