Why do we have seasons?
The Earth is tilted at an angle of 23.5* towards
the North Star.
The Earth revolves around the Sun.
When the northern hemisphere is tilted towards
the Sun, we receive more direct sunlight and it
gets warmer causing summer.
When the northern hemisphere is tilted away
from the Sun, we receive indirect sunlight and it
gets colder causing winter.
The northern and southern hemispheres
experience opposite seasons.

What is solar angle and how does it affect

us?

Solar angle is a term that refers to the angle

at which sunlight strikes the Earths surface.
When the sun shines directly on us
(summer), we say there is a high solar
angle. We get strong sunlight and it is
warm.
When the sun shines on us indirectly
because the sunlight is spread out over a
wide area, we say there is a low solar angle.
We get weak sunlight and it is cooler.

How does evaporation work?

Radiant energy from the Sun heats up the

water causing it to evaporate. Molecules
of water move faster and farther apart
causing the water to change from a liquid
to a gas.

Weather Review
What is the difference between humidity
and dew point?
Humidity: is how much water vapor is in
the air
Dew Point: when the air is
saturatedrain/sleet/snow

How do clouds form?
The Sun heats up the water and causes it to
evaporate.
The water vapor rises into the atmosphere.
As it rises, the water vapor cools.
When it reaches dew point, the water vapor
condenses around condensation nuclei (smoke,
dirt, or dust particles) making small droplets of
water.
The small droplets of water come together to
form a cloud.

Weather Review
How does the water cycle work?
Water evaporate and rises to form clouds. The
clouds move over land and precipitation falls. Some
falls as ice and snow and adds to the glaciers and
polar icecaps. Some falls as rain in lakes, rivers,
and oceans. Some of the precipitation soaks into
the ground and is stored in the soil. Some works its
way through the layers of soil to the aquifer where it
is stored as groundwater. Some of the water is
used by plants and some by animals. Some of the
moisture stays in the atmosphere.
