Lacrosse

MY PASSION PROJECT

Introduction
My passion is lacrosse. I have been
playing for three years and it is my
school to play all the way through
college on an athletic scholarship.

Previous Sports

- Always had a passion for sports

- Experimented with many sports including: soccer, basketball, and


volleyball.

- Siblings played lacrosse at a college level

- Practiced with them before joining a team

- Team Sport

What is Lacrosse

- Up and coming sport

- Most rapidly growing team sport in North America

- Most popular in the East Coast and Canada

- Originated by Native Americans along the St. Lawrence Valley


(stretches from the Great Lakes into Canada)

- Known as stickball

- Sticks were made of Deer Sinew

Basic Skills:

- Hand-Eye coordination

Catching

Passing

Field Awareness

Cradling

- Speed & Agility

Standard field is 110 yards, midfielders have to run the whole length
many times throughout the game

On average, players run 3-5 miles every game

Defensive cuts

4 quarters of 12-minute non stop play

Gear:

- Goggles

- Mouth guard

- Stick

- Cleats

- Skirts are no longer the uniform

Rules:

- Can check stick but not body

- If both hands are on your stick, you can press against another
player

- When the stick is held horizontally, the ball must be at least level
with rim

- Can never cross over goalies crease

- Dangerous propelling

Denver University:

- Dream to play for Denver University

- DU Clinic: Welcoming and talented team, campus

- Ranked in Nations top 100 schools by U.S. News & World Report.

- Division 1 school

- Lacrosse is one of their most appreciated sports along with hockey

Scholarships:

- DU has a very high tuition

- Average cost of attendance is $57,765

- Lacrosse offers the most girls athletic scholarships

- Average womens lacrosse scholarship for NCAA 1 is $14,660, not


including other forms of financial aid

- 83% of students receive financial aid

Conclusion
Lacrosse is a great team sport that
requires a lot of endurance and other
skills. I have a passion for Lacrosse and I
hope to pursue it at the college level.
