1. Manchuria was a coastal province of china which got invaded by Japan in 1931.

Japan
was limited in size being an island and its population was increasing becoming too
overwhelming for the land mass. This was one of the reasons for the invasion; it was also
thought that Manchuria was rich in mineral and forestry. Japan had also invested quite a
lot of money into Manchuria and now wanted it for their own. Abyssinia todays Ethiopia
was sought after and captured by Italy in 1935. When the Italians first attacked the
Abyssinians appealed to the League of Nations and the League more or less did the same
this as they had done in the Manchurian conflict. They gave out a verbal warning which
did nothing just as it had in the first struggle. Sanctions did not work with the Japanese
because Japan was a power house and countries felt that if one of us backs away another
will replace us. That mentality as well as poor organizing and follow through are the
same reasons sanctions failed with Italy. No military action and no real force were taken
in both conflicts solidifying the Toothless tiger reputation the League had.

2. There are a few reasons why the Spanish Civil war was a dress rehearsal for WWII. The
main protagonists from both sides of WWII were active in the Spanish Civil War and
again were on opposing sides. In addition to having the opposing forces of WWII the
Spanish Civil War served as a "dress rehearsal" for some of the military tactics that
would be displayed on a grand scale in WWII an example of this is the use of German
dive bombers, used in the Spanish Civil war, refined and used again much more
efficiently in WII, also "In military terms this was far from true. Both sides were starved
for material, fighting with outdated weapons on flexible fronts with limited
communication and little air support. Civilians were bombed." "On a broader scale and
somewhat simplistically, you could say that the Spanish Civil War, like was fought
between forces of fascism (the Nationalists, assisted by Germany and Italian, both fascist
at the time) and of democracy (the Republic, with assistance from people from around the
world). Sadly, in Spain, the fascists won."
3. Criteria
- What would Hitler most likely agree too
- What would cause the least destruction
- What would save the most lives
- What would could little to no money
- What would cause a war to be inconceivable
Britain practiced appeasement because Chamberlin truly believed that a war could be avoided if
Hitler was given what he wanted. He felt that he would not too much and as soon as he got the
little he wanted he would stop and war would have evaded.
The reason that is the most plausible is "To prevent war"
The War had not only cost Britain a lot in lives, financially but also in rank. Britain was the
world number 1 superpower but after the war they were dreadfully close to losing that title
another war meant the end of Britain's reign on top.
Back to the cost finically, the war cost Britain 3, 251, 000, 000 and
The British casualties, including their empires was an estimated 908, 000. No war means, no
destruction, no lives lost, no money wasted. Chamberlin also thought that giving Hitler what he
wanted would make him happy and he would stop advancing he thought that all dictators had a
price. Britain did not want another war and would do anything to prevent it.

4. Blitzkrieg or in English Lightning war is an innovative military technique. It is base of

surprise and speed. It is derived from the Schlieffen Plan. Blitzkrieg relied on a large
military force backed up by many light tank units which were also supported by planes,
infantry and foot soldiers. Germany successfully used the Blitzkrieg tactic against
Poland (attacked in September 1939), Denmark (April 1940), Norway (April 1940),
Belgium (May 1940), the Netherlands (May 1940), Luxembourg (May 1940), France
(May 1940), Yugoslavia (April 1941), and Greece (April 1941). Blitzkrieg was
unstoppable because of the element of surprise. Countries being attacked did not have
enough time to get the equipment they needed to defend themselves. They also didnt
know how to defend themselves. Blitzkrieg was a completely foreign form of warfare.
Countries were effectively powerless.
