Abortion
Abortion in our society is a controversial issue. Everyone has an opinion on abortion,
there are many pros and cons about abortion but most of them balance out. There should only be
abortions if there is specific reasoning that it needs to be done. Examples are women getting
raped and also, if the fetus is killing the mother. But, there are negatives like birth control are
free, and parents should talk about sexual acts with children. Abortion is being abused by kids
having kids and cannot financially afford their child.
It is unjust that a woman must carry to term a child conceived through rape.
(Meehan 1) Female should not have to carry a child if raped. Women should not have to go
through having a child from a male that raped them and look like them. Here, I believe we can
learn from the experience of women who have carried such children to term and either brought
them up themselves or released them for adoption. And they can learn from the children of rape,
who speak out in increasing numbers, saying they are glad they weren't made to pay for their
fathers' crimes. (Meehan 1) A mother should have the right to choose what to do with the child.
As Meehan explains, women do have the choice to give the child up for adoption. This is a
scenario that the state should pass a law for mothers that are raped and have a choice to abort or
keep the child.

Ectopic pregnancy is one of the primary diagnoses that emergency medicine providers
consider when evaluating women of childbearing age with abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding.
The evaluation for this condition is expedited in the emergency setting because ectopic
pregnancy has a significant impact on maternal health, with potential sequelae including lifethreatening hemorrhage and loss of fertility if the diagnosis is missed or delayed. (Murtaza 100)
Ectopic is an example of why women should have choice to abort the child if the child is killing
the mother. This is one of the scenarios that have pros and cons. A mother can die during labor
or the child can die from the mother aborting the child. Some of the contributing risk factors that
have been associated with spontaneous abortion, aside from chromosomal abnormalities, include
but are not limited to advanced maternal age, first pregnancies, history of early pregnancy loss,
exposure to toxins (e.g., tobacco, alcohol), and obesity (Murtaza 104). As stated above, the fetus
can be lost because of the womens health or what she is doing during pregnancy.
President Obama approved a recommendation from the Institute of Medicine, making
birth control free under the Affordable Care Act. (Saunders 1) Clinics everywhere distribute free
birth control without needing insurance. Girls at a young age that feel that they are ready should
get birth control before the sexual act occurs. Also, females get nervous thinking their mother or
family members will find out. Most clinics usually ask the female if they want their information
private. Females can use their number if the clinics need to get in contact with them for
information. Groups such as Planned Parenthood and NARAL hail this regulation as a huge step
forward in women's health, blaming the high rate of unplanned pregnancies in the United States
compared to other industrialized nations on women not being able to afford preventative care.
(Saunders 1) Birth Control has a very strong impact that will help women in the future.

Teens say that parents (not their peers) most influence their decisions about dating and
relationships and say that it would be easier to delay sex and avoid pregnancy if they were able
to have more open, honest conversations about these topics with parents. (Baker 460) Parents
could have an open conversation with the child curious about sex. Children learning the facts of
sex and contraception lower the rate of pregnancy and abortion. Dr. Kaeser begins by
encouraging parents to reflect on their parenting style and to educate themselves on the merits of
authoritative parenting. (Baker 461) In this database, it talks about parents scared of talking to
the child about sex. Parents should not be scared of something that can ruin your son or
daughters life later in life and regret that they did not talk their kid about sex.
States have different types of laws regarding abortion. Laws that do not let
mothers get the right to choose and some let mothers do whatever they please. As explained
above, teens need to learn about safe sex and how abortion can be stopped. Abortion should only
be needed if life threatening situation or if the mother was raped. Abortion has pros and cons in
each scenario which is hard for anyone to choose if abortion should be stopped or continued. We
should not have kids unless they are truly ready for that big step. Abortion is a controversial
issue and needs to have a more in depth law in the U.S so abortion wont be abused.
