Summary of
Activity

Activity Protocol: Made and iced cupcakes for peers and staff. Processing Component:
Showing appreciation to others by giving an unexpected gift. Also discussed how
learning how to cook is a life skill.

Objective

Recreation Therapy Objective - During Recreation Therapy sessions, Resident will


clarify own values and interests regarding leisure and recreation in order to more
effectively use leisure time. Resident will clarify her values and interests at least 1 time
per Rec. Therapy session over the next six months.

demonstrated a neutral affect by smiling often and conversing with peers and intern.
Resident demonstrated positive and effective social skills, by using please and thank
you when asking peers questions. Resident appeared interested in learning how to ice
cupcakes by asking questions, making appropriate eye contact, and remaining engaged.
She learned how to use a pastry bag and help ice cupcakes with her peers. Resident
volunteered to decorate a cupcake box for a therapist. At the end of group Resident
thanked intern and said the activity was "awesome."

activity, mood, and having fun in positive ways.

Objective

Recreation Therapy Objective - During Recreation Therapy sessions, Resident will


identify the negative ways in which substance abuse has impacted life and verbalize
situational, personal, social, and family factors that foster substance abuse. Resident
will learn new coping skills and leisure activities to help overcome substance abuse.
Resident will verbalize insights 2 times per session.

abuse. Resident will learn new coping skills and leisure activities to help
overcome substance abuse. Resident will verbalize insights 2 times per session.

Resident presented a bright affect. She joked and laughed often with peers, Intern,
and Staff. Resident suggested to peers to play this game during their evening
outside time. Several peers agreed. Resident appeared to enjoy the game and have
more energy by the end of group. Resident's overall affect improved by the end of
the activity.
