Teacher Notebook #2 Child B: Gabe List the three assessments you administered to this child: (5 pts) Interest Survey Sociogram Anecdotal Record __ © Describe specific information you learned about this child through the three assessments identified above. (This might include areas of interest, learning styles, learning disabilities, distractions, physical disabilities, social skills, etc.)(15 pts) | 6 For the first assessment, the Interest Survey, I learned that he likes soccer. He is on a soccer team. He likes to run, He likes anything that is being active. He likes to work with others, He likes his friends. He likes hands on learning, He does not have any disabilities. He is on grade level for reading and math. I did learn that he had a sister that passed away. | administered this test as a getting to know you quiz that they all completed on their iPad. One of the questions was about their families. He decided to share that he lost his younger sister a few years ago. He does not seem to have any emotional issues but this is something that | will be sensitive to and aware of. The sociogram, the second assessment, confirmed that he is a student that is always interacting with others. All of his interactions are positive. The only negative aspects is that he talks when he shouldn't during class. The only negative interaction is with the teacher when he does talk out of turn. The anecdotal records showed me that he does get his work done and is on task but likes to talk while learning. He is very social, He likes to move around a lot. At recess he runs around. He needs time to release energy. From the third assessment, the anecdotal records, I confirmed that he is a great student and is talkative if itis an activity with his friends or sports related. He does however have trouble speaking in front of the class. He can be very quiet. He gets nervous when he is the center of the attention when it's to the whole class. Whenever they call for scores he always says pass, and tells the teacher his score after, regardless of the score being good or not. * Identify a behavior or an academic skill that you would focus on to help this child be more successful at school. (Some suggestions are: staying in seat, developing social skills, completing assignments, anger issues, more challenging assignments and/or instruction, etc.) (10 pts) For Gabe, | would try to work on two things. I would first want to work on when it is appropriate to talk. He loves to talk with his friends, which is normal, but this can be at inappropriate times. He has trouble with speaking to the whole class. 1 want him to become more confident in that aspect and practice it more. The second would be incorporating movement into the instruction more to appease to his learning style, This may include more hands on assignments, or even little breaks to stretch or move around to release some energy. After he has a break he always does much better. He likes to move around. * Describe how you will use specific information collected from the three assessments listed above ina plan to help this student improve his/her behavior, make school more meaningful and successful and/or help this child to develop socially, intellectually, and/or emotionally. (The information collected might include: favorite foods, favorite school content areas, social skills or social settings, personal areas of interest such as animals, electronics, sports, countries other cultures, learning styles, etc.) (15 pts) VO For the first aspect that | wanted to work on for Gabe, talking when itis appropriate, I would sit him down and talk to him about what he thinks. Does he think that he talks to his buddies at inappropriate times, when I'm teaching or testing, and how he thinks that affects his learning and the class altogether. Also | would discuss with him what he feels he can do to fix this. I want him to be involved in this change in behavior. I would also stress that talking is just fine and I definitely want to encourage it in the classroom but there isa time and a place. I would say that he is so loud and excited when he talks with his friends, does he feels that he talks the same when he is asked to share with the whole class. | will ask why it is harder to talk at the front of the class. Does he get nervous? What can we do to help with that? We would write down these ideas. We would decide on opportunities to practice this skill so that he doesn't feels so nervous. My idea is that he is a table captain. This means that he is responsible for reporting to the class and keeping his table on task. There are many perks to this job as well. For the second behavior, incorporating movement more into the instruction, would be aware of how he is feeling, If cannot involve movement or anything hands on in the lesson I will be sure to give him breaks. I will use this for the whole class. I would call this brain breaks because we all need a break to release energy. We could stretch, play a game, jump in place, play silent ball, or simply dance to a song as a class. This will help Gabe to stay on task through engagement and focus on the lesson better after a quick break. of Pl _Socrative qui jetting to know you (students own words) Gabe Jimenez Likes: Soccer, Xbox 360, Barcelona, USA, Real Madrid Favorite Subject Art Learn best: Visual aid (powerpoint, pictures, objects, etc. Family: | live with my family. | have 1 brother 3 sisters. 1 of my sisters died.
