How did the cold war affect Latin America? Why did the United States get involved?

United States and the USSR were like two kids who can never agree on anything. They
always fought on something that wasnt very important, or they got angry over things that are
very important. Coming from that, if your government was communist; you gained powerful
support of the soviets. If they werent, USA was your heavily armed buddy you can tell they
always have to up 1 them so by doing this, you basically earn rewards for picking a side which is
very childish.
What is the difference between left and right wing? And why is it confusing?
Those terms relate back to people that have opposing views. Meaning, they have different
outlook on certain things. If you believe in left wing, you are known as liberals. If you believe in
the right wing, the government is known as conservatives. The governments are much smaller.
To people looking to choose, it can get very confusing for them. Due to that fact that you have to
choose and side and the sides dont really relate to each other.
Why did the United States get involved in Cuba?
United States was involved in the economy from Cuba. Majority of the main crop was
sugar production which the USA heavily. Majority of the Cuban people were poor for various
reasons so it wasnt hard to have control over something like that. What sparked this was Castro.
He caused so much drama and unneeded violence that the USA had no option then to but in and
get this take care of.
Whats a banana republic?
Banana republic country that is an almost powerless government and controlled by a
company due to the purpose of producing and exporting a good. Referring back to a good, its
often a banana which is why its called a banana republic.
How did the CIA get involved with Guatemala?
Militant doctors had control of Guatemala in 1950s. One of the leaders named Jacobo
Arbenz Guzman. He has caused some of the issued involved with Guatemala and can be looked
at bad or good. What mainly caused them to get into this mess was his action of enacting land
reforms that were communist in nature. USA was strongly anti-communist.
What is the other infamous September 11th?
Augusto Pinochet overthrew the government in a military based fashion on September
11 . This caused people to have barely any basic human rights. Tons were killed and tortured
which led straight back to Augusto. Sadly, he was alive long enough for him to be able to feel
just as bad as he made those people feel.

The people who were killed from the government actions. They were labeled as the
disappeared because they were taken out of their homes and off the street and were never heard
of again.
Why was it controversial when the United States intervened in Nicaragua?
This occurs mostly due to the actions of the USA. They supplied guns to anti-communist.
So obviously they were on sided that could be viewed as wrong or unfair in this certain situation.
What violence occurred in Brazil and El Salvador?
For Brazil, it mostly dealt with their government and new rulers and leaders trying to take
ahold. For El Salvador civil war broke out which is horrible and should never happen to any
place. Most of the violence occurred here because of how big the war actually was.
If democracy is a goal of the L.A. nations, what does a nation have to have in order to
achieve this goal?
A nation has the ability to do what every they want. Thats why its called a nation. But
sometimes, nations arent allowed to do whatever they want. They have to make sure its the
right thing they would want to do. Make sure people think its ok and run with it smoothly. A lot
of the times that does not happen. People overthrow the government and are mean and nasty.
They set stupid rules that dont apply to anything necessary. So in the long run, its not what they
have to do, its how hard it actually is to do.
