Introduc)on to Outdoor Photography
Monday, April 12 & 19, 7-9 PM; Saturday, April 17 (all day).
CPM Members, $80. Non-Members $95

The outdoors offers an endless array of subject matter for the casual and serious
photographer alike. This course opens the outdoors to photographic exploration by
those who have not yet become involved within this arena and for others, serves to
broaden perspectives about the richness of photographic opportunities always avail-
able close to home as well as “off the beaten path”. The scope of presentation in-
cludes discussion of shooting in daytime and nighttime hours, during all types of
weather conditions, and the pursuit of subject matter that ranges from plants and
animals to that of the human-built environment. Classroom presentation, discus-
sion and a mentored day-in-the field are fully integrated to provide a “hands-on”
enrichment experience to build upon personally. The first session will be presenta-
tion and discussion that introduces the subject matter and explores basic prepara-
tion, approaches, equipment and other relevant topics.
That session is followed by a mentored day-in-the field that begins with a morning
of “nature” photography, lunch on your own and then an afternoon of photography
of the human-built environment. The final session returns to the classroom for
evaluations of student assigned images and concluding discussions,

Instructor: Milt Friend has taught several nature and other outdoor photography
courses through CPM. Exhibits of his work have appeared in venues within the
Madison area and afar.

Requirements: A working knowledge of basic camera operation as this is not the

purpose for the course. Point-and-shoot as well as more advanced camera systems
are appropriate as is the use of either digital or film technology. Participants are
expected to complete a class assignment that will require bringing 2-3 8x10 prints
to the final session for evaluation.

Enrollment limit: 10
