Marquez

I have had the pleasure of working with many outstanding Marines in my ten
years of experience in the Marine Corps. When I took over as the Maintenance
Management Officer, Cpl Marquez exceeded my expectations of an outstanding
Non-Commissioned Officer from the first day he fell under my charge. As I
observed him I quickly noticed his devotion to duty and professionalism as he
managed the enormous responsibilities of the Maintenance Management Office.
At the regimental level, our office not only supported maintenance management
for our organic companies but we also managed external subordinate battalions
as well. The equipment maintained within the companies and battalions ranged
from engineer, communications, motor transport, landing support and food
service items that allowed the Regiment to accomplish its mission. The
amount of equipment Cpl Marquez oversaw was in the thousands and if you
include all the gear and tools in support of that mission essential equipment
it valued in the hundreds of millions. There are very few Marines I know I
could entrust with the accountability and responsibility of maintaining this
equipment and Cpl Marquez is one of them.
His outstanding work ethic and leadership skills allowed him to easily task
organize his priorities when it came to all the programs utilized to maintain
that equipment. His duties were very much comparable to a project manager
were tasks must be completed with time constraints and under heavy
guidelines. His strong leadership skills reinforced that units were staying
within guidelines set by Marine Corps orders to ensure maintenance and
programs were being conducted correctly. Cpl Marquezs superb organization
skills allowed him and his Marines to meet all timelines and requirements set
by our chain of command and higher headquarters. His strong mental and
physical courage also enabled him to handle the heavy stresses of a combat
environment while still performing all these tasks.
Cpl Marquezs leadership did not stop with the maintenance cycle. It extended
well beyond as he led, mentored and guided his junior Marines through
deployments, training operations, their careers and everyday life. He will be
a force multiplier in any position with any company or department. I wish the
Marine Corp were not losing such a valuable asset.
