How to Manage a Classroom

Effectively

Have a set of rules regulations will help to

maintain classroom discipline and management.
Introduce the rules at the very beginning so that
the students know what are the consequences of
missing or late assignment
Be firm and consistent- When you make your
rules to manage your classroom, make sure that
they are realistic. Do no let students to
manipulate you, avoid any exception of the rules.
Get order in the classroom before you start
talking; make students calm down. Don't try to
talk over students; you'll be initiating a
competition to see who can speak louder and also
let them know it's okay to talk while you are
talking.

Be well prepared and control your lesson

Use students names
Maintain an eye contact with the students
(even when writing on a board try to turn
to the class from time to time)
Vary you teaching methods
Adjust pace of your lesson to students
abilities ( neither too fast nor too slow)
Have additional materials for early
finishers

Respect all the students regardless of their

language skills and behaviour
Walk around the classroom
Use positive reinforcement praise
students from time to time

If the problem has already occured

Limit yourself to short comments do not argue

with the students. The more you talk, the more
you distract from the lesson
Act immediately when you see a problem
Do not show your anger
Treat students misbehaviour individually; do not
let it to have influence on the whole class
Apply non-verbal methods of getting
Don't hand out lots of warnings without following
through on consequences. Lots of warnings tell
students that you won't enforce a rule
Do not shout if you start doing it all the time, it
becomes less effective

Do not humiliate: Humiliating students will only

cause teachers to lose their authority in the
classroom and contribute to psychological damage in
children, as well as fear and resentment.
