Gallery Exhibition Contract

Location: Academy Gallery/Up Front Gallery/Arts & Education Lobby/Westminster
Canterbury
TERMS:
1. All work must be suitably prepared for exhibition. Two-dimensional work should be
framed with hanging wire attached. If the piece is not framed, a suitable method of
hanging the piece must be provided.
The Academy of Fine Arts (hereafter AFA) has pedestals available to display
sculpture. If additional pedestals or special display stands are needed, the artist must
provide them.
2. The AFAs commission on sale of artwork is 35% of the sale price. The AFA will
collect and pay sales tax. If artwork is sold during the exhibition, payment will be
issued by the 15th of the following month. All work must remain on display in the
gallery through the final exhibition date.
3. The AFA will insure the work on location during the period of the loan, provided this
form is signed. The lender agrees that, in the event of loss or damage, recovery shall
be limited to such amount, if any, as may be paid by the insurer, hereby releasing the
AFA, the Board of Trustees, officers, agents and employees of the AFA from liability
for any and all claims arising out of such loss or damage.
4. The AFA will provide a free public reception; a web version of the gallery postcard
will be emailed to Academy patrons. Private openings and special show
announcements are at the artists expense unless otherwise agreed to in writing and
should be coordinated through AFA staff.
5. Advance publicity will be provided in local media and AFA mailings when possible.
Any publicity the artist chooses to send out must be pre-approved by AFA staff.
6. The artist may provide a resume with this contract. Please include the following
information:
Name, complete address, phone number and e-mail address
Education and professional experience
List of exhibitions and awards
List of institutions that own your work
Statement of artistic philosophy or process involved in your work, plus any
related promotional materials
7. In staging this exhibition, if artwork differs significantly in content, style or technique
from the examples the artist submitted for review by the Exhibitions Curator reserves
the right to exclude the artwork they deem to be inconsistent with what the
Exhibitions Curator accepted. If more artwork is delivered for the show, than can be
accommodated, the Curator reserves the right to place some artwork in storage so that
the amount of artwork is appropriate to the size of the gallery.
8. Photography: Unless the AFA is notified in writing to the contrary, it is understood
that art lent for exhibition may be photographed and reproduced in the AFA
publications and for publicity purposes connected with the exhibition.
