Unit 2.1 Behind Your Walls

Challenge
Most people do not consider what is behind the painted walls or exterior surface in most buildings.
However, just like a human body, for a home to function properly and efficiently, the guts must be
designed just right. A homes structural support, insulation, plumbing, etc. all exist inside our walls. As
you can see, the wall cavity may be physically small, but it plays a big role in the design of a home.
To celebrate the importance of structural design and educate others about the components behind their
walls, you will build a model that shows the layers of a house. A detailed description for each component
will be communicated in an accompanying table.

Constraints
1. An Architectural Scale of 3/8 = 1 must be used.
2. Use letters or numbers to identify the following components on your model:

5. Typical dimensions and materials must be represented.
6. Lay out your model as described by the teacher or design your own layout and gain teacher approval
before using it.
7. The maximum dimension for your footprint is 18, and the minimum is 12.
