Purpose of the Course


This course develops Spanish language acquisition through listening, speaking, reading and writing material. It will cover
basic Spanish vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar in the target language. The course will focus on vocabulary based
on Holidays, Celebrations, Technology, Traveling, City and Country Life as well as Driving following the structure in the As
Se Dice! Textbook. The grammar lectures will continue to develop upon the previous acquisition of the present tense and
preterite tense conjugations. Grammar will build upon these by introducing the imperfect tense, the present perfect
tense and the future tense. Students will also obtain an understanding of the history, traditions and customs of the
Spanish-speaking cultures.

Homework: Students should expect to have homework every night through the www.quia.com online activities. Those
who do not have access to internet at home will be able to check out a workbook from the schools librarian and
complete their work on a separate piece of paper. Students are expected to also spend time at home studying the current
vocabulary and grammar for a minimum of 10 minutes per night. Online homework must be submitted by the assigned
due date. Physical work must be turned in during the students period on the due date. Late homework is not accepted.
Students who are absent must go to SchoolLoop to find the work that they missed and complete it by the due date.
*In case of SchoolLoop or Quia or computer issues, students must turn in a filled out Homework Complications form to
the teacher on the day that the homework was to be submitted. If a student fails to do so, the zero may not be recovered.

Classwork: Classwork includes written and spoken work in class. A large portion of the grade in the classwork category
will be in the form of each days activities, games, and oral. Students will be graded on their attempt at completing the
work in the allowed time plus the corrections made after reviewing the material. Students who are absent MUST go to
SchoolLoop to make the missed activities.

Quizzes & Exams: There will be periodic quizzes on relevant vocabulary and grammar topics. Students will be notified of
upcoming quizzes and tests at least one week prior to the scheduled date. There will be a chapter exam at the end of each
chapter in the book. There will be a cumulative final exam at the conclusion of the course.

Make-ups of Exams: If absent on the day of a quiz or exam, it is the students responsibility to schedule a make-up with
the teacher. The test must be taken within one week of the students return. Make-ups will be offered on Tuesday at
lunch in room 1200 only. Online tests and quizzes must be taken in room 1200. Students can expect their makeup grade
to show within a time frame of 1 to 2 weeks. If a student fails to make the missed assessment up within the allowed week,
they will receive a 5 point deduction on the total grade.

School Loop Expectations


Assignments for Spanish classes at Sage Creek will be reliably available on the SchoolLoop calendar. Grades will be posted
on SchoolLoop on a weekly basis. Profesora Castaeda course website will include the daily agenda with the review, notes
assignments, and homework.

Expectations upon entering the classroom:
Students will quietly be seated in their appropriate seat by the time the bell rings
Students will quietly copy his/her agenda
Student will raise his/her hand when he/she has any question
Students will use the bathroom BEFORE class and will not be able to use the bathroom during the first 20
minutes of class
o To avoid being marked tardy, students are expected to be in their assigned seat with their materials out
by the time the bell rings, and immediately begin reviewing the daily agenda. Students should refer to
their Student Handbook for the schools tardy policy.

Expectations for the classroom:


No food or drink (only water bottles)
No CHEWING gun
CELL PHONES will remain in the backpack/purse unless specified by Ms. Castaeda

Students may use the bathroom if it is an emergency only -only 1 pass will be provided every other week
Students may not leave class to get a drink of water but they may bring a water bottle to class to drink

Students can receive academic support every Monday & Tuesday from 2:45 to 3:45 at the Bobcat Den in the Library.
Families and friends are encouraged to support the Spanish learners by helping them to memorize the vocabulary (ie: the
volunteer says the vocabulary word in English and the student relays it back in Spanish).
