The Peaceful Sail

(2)

After the hard training of being a Japanese Navy soldier, I (Ryoga

Futahashi) was on the main deck of Fujiyama, the battle ship of the
Japanese Navy. The big, strong battle ship sailed through the Tsujima
Ocean. The cool, smooth wind hit my face as if it was trying to cool my
excitement down. Captain Yuki, General Shotaro and Chief Mikael
were walking around the ship to see if everything were OK.
Sometimes they would order things to stabilize everything. I went to
the back of the ship and it was lunch time. We all ate lunch and the
food was delicious. Every thing were going well but part of me knew
1
that in the battlefield its all different.

War Has Begun!

We were sailing normally and the enemies were not in sight but the
tension in the air was really tight. Every one didnt look so relaxed as
they were moments ago. Captain Yuki and General Shotaro were
talking seriously. The mood made me uncomfortable and it made me
feel that cannons from the enemies can shoot at us. I guess I wasnt
thinking so much that I saw ships far away. A cannonball flew all the
way and it hit the water 10m from the ship. Ships approaching from
the two oclock direction! some one called out. The next moment it
was chaos. General Shotaro and chief Mikael barked orders to get the
soldiers ready. Captain Yuki went somewhere that I probably didnt
know. The Russians shot at us, someone yelled. War has begun!

Total Chaos
The fact the the ship was coming with full speed kind of made the
soldiers in total chaos. Everyone were running around, yelling at each
other. The cannons were set ready and the ship got in a fighting
position. My job was to shoot cannons so I ran to my cannon. I got
ready and General Shotaro yelled: Fire!! I shot the cannon and the
cannonball flew all the way and hit one of the ships from the Baltic
Fleet. Strike! I whispered to my self. The ship exploded and the
enemy ship seemed to get frustrated. My cannonball seems to have
caused a lot of problem. The Baltic Fleet stopped. They looked like it
was going to stop the war. Instead they shot a cannon and it hit the
ship next to us. I got a bit scared and I hid under the cannon. The
Russian warships got more aggressive and they kept on shooting
cannons at us. Most of them missed us and hit the water but the
tension didnt change. Our cannon balls were mostly hitting their
warships. We were winning and there were 15 ships left.

Huge Explosion

The smokes from both ships were so much that the sight got blocked.
Our ship was so lucky that we didnt have a single fire started in our
ship. Everything was going fine. The war was running for 1 hour now.
The battleships from both countries seemed to sink. The Baltic got
fewer and fewer. We were winning but nobody seemed to notice.
Everyone was so quiet and focused that I had to to concentrate as
well. Captain Yuki, General Shotaro and Chief Mikael seemed to be
more concentrated than all the Japanese Navy soldiers all put
together. They were running around the ship, keeping everything in
order. Then there was a huge explosion at the back of the ship. About
10 people flew in the air, screaming. AAAAAAAAGGHHHHH!!!!!!! I
4
realized what happened. A cannonball hit our ship.

Fall Of The Baltic Fleet

Our ship was on fire. Bring the fire extinguisher! Chief Mikael
yelled. About five people ran to the spot that was burning. The fire
literally died down. Fire at will! General Shotaro ordered. I shot 3
shots and I hit two of them. One of them hit the water. The only ship
that was left was the main ship from the Baltic Fleet and fifteen of our
ships. I shot the canon and the cannonball seemed looked like it was
in slow motion. The enemy ship exploded with a huge Boom! The ship
began to sank. We all celebrated. Some people even threw their hats
in the air. I wore a huge smile on my face. I was really happy but also
really sad. The soldiers that we killed were dead. Their families (if
they had one) were waiting in their house, waiting for the soldiers to
come. Now that was impossible.

Victory

As soon as we stepped in the path of the people, everyone started

cheering. The Japanese flag was attached to a tall pole, waving with
the wind. The people looked happy, like we achieved something really
big (and we have). As we walked through the path, I was happy, but
something hooked in my heart as the people celebrated. I realized
what was hooking in my heart. It was the lost soldiers, that have been
killed by us in the war. I wondered if I could share this happiness with
the lost soldiers. They havent done anything to earn this death. Then
this idea hit me right in the head. The Russian soldiers died, proud of
them self and their country. It would only make the lost soldiers
shamed with their self. I realized it would only make them happy if I
think them self as noble soldiers. I made myself straight and
celebrated Japan;s victory.
