BIR files tax evasion raps vs flour, gas dealers

Manila Bulletin Thu, Aug 14, 2014

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed tax evasion cases against a flour dealer and a
liquefied gas dealer.
In separate criminal complaints submitted before the Department of Justice, BIR Commissioner
Kim Jacinto-Henares identified the respondents as Manuel Nieto, owner of Perseus Commodity
Trading of Bonifacio Avenue, Quezon City; Agnes Dayao, proprietress of Millenium Gaz
Marketing of Tandang Sora, Quezon City; and Diosdado Sison who is into rental and leasing of
dwelling units of Project 4, Quezon City.
Sison's accountant, Danilo Lincod, was included in the complaint for allegedly certifying the
landlord's false financial statement.
Henares said the tax evasion charges were filed after the accused ignored notices sent to them
including seizure warrants to settle the tax liabilities incurred in 2010 and prior years.
Nieto was slapped the highest deficiency tax assessment of P86.4 million followed by Dayao
with P30.1 million.
"The respondents' obstinate failure and continued refusal to pay the long overdue deficiency tax
assessments, despite repeated demands, constitute failure to pay the taxes due the government,"
Henares said.
Since 2010, BIR has already filed 278 tax evasion cases.
