Archaebacteria
Methanogens

They produce methane gas and

live in swamps.
Methanogens reproduce
asexually, by dividing in half.
They use energy from other
bacteria in swamps to produce
methane.
They play a huge role in the
ecosystem by making methane
that can be useful to other
organisms in the ecosystem.

Thermophiles

Live in hot springs.

Survive at high temperatures that
other organisms would be
damaged or killed at.
Reproduce by splitting their single
cell in half.
They use energy in the form of
sulfuric acid.
The role that they play in the
ecosystem is that they keep soil
and harmful bacteria in control
wherever they are at.

Eubacteri
a
Proteobacteria

Are often found in animal

intestines and/or in many types of
soils.
Live in soil-borne nitrogen fixers
mostly. (rich soil)
They use and obtain energy by
converting light into energy using
photosynthesis.
They reproduce by splitting in
half, therefore they asexually
reproduce.
Proteobacteria has the role of
influencing biogeochemical and
geological processes throughout
Earths history.

Cyanobacteria

Known as blue-green algae.

Lives in fresh and salt water mostly.
Is asexual, reproducing.
They use/obtain energy by using
inorganic nutrients found in the
water.
Their role in the ecosystem is
nitrogen fixation, mostly used in
coral reefs.

Fungi
Mushrooms

Mushrooms are a fungal growth that

typically takes the form of a dome.
Mushrooms live in dark and shady
environments mostly.
They obtain/use energy from the
remains of dead plants, and animal
waste.
Mushrooms reproduce asexually.
The role that a mushroom plays in
the ecosystem is that they
decompose dead materials, and
turn the nutrients into useful matter
for other organisms.

Yeasts

Yeast is a microscopic fungi that is

extremely useful in the
environment.
Yeast obtains/uses energy by
converting sugar into carbon
dioxide, and alcohol.
It reproduces by budding.
Yeast lives in dark, moist areas with
a low acidic pH level.
The role that yeast plays in the
ecosystem is breaking down rocks,
and substances to help soil
formation.

Amoebas

Protists

Amoebas mostly live in water or

swamp-like areas.
Amoebas are free moving
organisms that move by
extending finger-like
projections.
They use/obtain energy by
eating food. They do this by
sending out bulges from their
cytoplasm.
Amoebas reproduce by binary
fission, which is asexual.
The role that amoebas play in
the ecosystem is that they have
a huge impact on the lowest
level of the food web, they eat
bacteria and algae.

Euglena

Euglena is a single-celled
freshwater organism.
Euglena mostly lives in
freshwater or swamps.
They use/obtain energy either
by heterotrophy, like humans,
or photosynthesis, like plants.
Euglena reproduces asexually.
The role that euglena plays in
the ecosystem is helping direct
other organisms.

Plants
Trees

Trees are a woody perennial plant.

Trees live in forests, and cover
most of the Earth.
Trees use and obtain energy by
photosynthesis.
They reproduce by pollen, which
is asexual.
The role that trees play in an
ecosystem is by giving off oxygen
that is useful for humans to
breathe.

Flowers

Flowers are the seed-bearing part

of a plant surrounded by brightly
colored corolla, known as petals.
Flowers can live anywhere where
nutrient soil exists.
Flowers obtain/use energy by
photosynthesis.
Flowers reproduce asexually by
the transfer of pollen.
The role that flowers play in an
ecosystem is proving food for
many insects.

als

Mammals

Mammals are warm blooded

animals, they have a vertebrate
and most are covered in hair.
Mammals live anywhere on the
Earth, mammals adapt to live
wherever they are located.
Mammals obtain and use energy
just like humans do, by eating.
Mammals reproduce sexually.
The role that mammals play in
the ecosystem is maintaining the
food chain, and keeping the
ecosystem healthy.

Reptiles

Reptiles are a cold blooded

vertebrate, most classified with a
dry scaly skin.
Reptiles live mostly in or by
water, but not all reptiles do.
They obtain and use energy by
eating, like we do.
Reptiles reproduce sexually.
The role that reptiles play in the
ecosystem is also keeping the
food chain steady, and making
sure there isnt one certain
species taking over.
